BUSH EVENT IN NEW HAMPSHIRE: Event workers had been told to fire off  confetti pods when Bush said, \'God Bless\'... his normal closing line. But 5 minutes before the end of his speech, Bush offered a "God Bless" to Arlene Howard, mother of George Howard a Port Authority of New York/New Jersey Police Officer killed in the World Trade Center... BLAM!!!!!
Everyone first ducked -- hard -- then looked up to see confetti falling.
Bush looked momentarily stunned, then plain unhappy, then just went on with his speech as the confetti rained to the floor of the Verizon
Wireless Arena... Developing...

Thanks Boombox. We need the luck- there are a frightening number of very possible scenarios which would end in this election ending up in the Supreme Court. There is a very large chance we won\'t know who is going to be president until close to when he is to be inaugurated. It\'s not unlikely that this election will make the Florida 2000 debacle look like the picture of efficiency and simplicity.

Here\'s hoping we can avoid another election fiasco.

jocelyn, from the news coverage over here, I guess you\'re going to be proved right. I loved the quote on the Beeb last night: "not even an intervention by Bin Laden could force a frontrunner" (or something like that.)

Speaking of election fiascos, if anyone is interested, there are a number of rips of Fahrenheit 9/11 to be had by following the link from Kill Ugly Radio (about five articles down the page). For those of you who have yet to discover this fine Zappa site, it is to be found at http://www.killuglyradio.com/hot-poop/

Somehow I can\'t imagine that Zappa would want to be associated with a propagandist like Michael Moore....

Ignorance
« Reply #354 on: November 02, 2004, 11:48:53 am »
I am really sick of people who think there should only be one type of person. I am sick of people who talk abotu politics and don\'t know what they are talking about. Case in point below, name has been witheld to protect the bonehead.

guy: why is NH so ignorant?
CowwCowBoogie: what? why is the world so ignorant?
guy: yaeh but as long as it comes to this election
guy: which is what we\'re dealing with now
guy: i just wonder why maine and nh are so ignorant?
CowwCowBoogie: NH is no worse than any other battleground state
guy: yeah
guy: i think it just really confuses me considering its in the predominatly liberal New England
CowwCowBoogie: besides, I can\'t really get mad at any swing state... it\'s no wonder it\'s a close election. both candidates are idiots.
CowwCowBoogie: NH and Maine have always been conservative
CowwCowBoogie: christ we were settled by Puritans Guy it\'s really suprising MA isn\'t more conservativeguy: yes they are
guy: but kerry is the lesser evil
guy: everyone knows that
guy: yeah i know Joc
guy: but that\'s all changed
guy: yeah by an elite white class
CowwCowBoogie: it\'s not all changed, that\'s a silly statement
guy: are you kidding me
CowwCowBoogie: you can see puritanism in so many of our laws
guy: the middle class
guy: yeah i know
CowwCowBoogie: Also, you can\'t say "everyone knows that" about kerry. I don\'t even know if I know that. I don\'t trust the guy, AT ALL.
guy: i was going to add something tot hat
guy: but i was cut off
CowwCowBoogie: no one stopped you, it\'s instant messenger, you can write whatever you want whenever you want, you can\'t GET cut off. i don\'t think the normal \'rules\' of conversation apply to internet
CowwCowBoogie: sheesh
guy: all i know is i hate conservatives with a passion
CowwCowBoogie: that is an ignorant statement and a cruel generalization.
guy: whats not ignorant at all?
guy: im sorry
guy: im flustered
guy: thats not cruel
guy: conservatives are evil, non-humanistic, racist, bigotted capitalist,  god fearing fucks
guy: at least liberals want peace
CowwCowBoogie: LMAO I AM a fiscal conservative
CowwCowBoogie: and saying liberals all want peace is a blanket statement, that\'s ridiculous
guy: i never said all
CowwCowBoogie: example: JFK inflamed the war in Vietnam
guy: i said liberals
CowwCowBoogie: and he was one heck of a liberal
guy: yes he did
guy: i dont even know why im here
guy: im sorry
guy: i have a test
CowwCowBoogie: saying liberals want peace is the same as saying all liberals want peace- take a semantics course
guy: i\'d rather not
CowwCowBoogie: and saying all conservatives are anything is very close minded
guy: i dont get anal over evert word
guy: oh yeah, the linguistics police will run after me
CowwCowBoogie: well when you are going to condemn a big group of people, you need to be careful about your words Guy
guy: no conservatives= a better world
CowwCowBoogie: you sound like a fascist
guy: conservatives are fucked
CowwCowBoogie: I suppose I am fucked then... at least regarding my fiscal opinions
CowwCowBoogie: the basis of conservatism is a good one, and I like to believe that the majority of people also happen to be good too, you can\'t say they\'re all evil, or biggots, or whatever. That\'s absurd. It\'s an idiotic statement, the facist party is made up of real people Guy, most of whom are good I like to think. They\'re not a bunch of neo-Nazis. It\'s simple: smaller federal governemnt= more power for the people & more state decisions to keep things more individualized.
CowwCowBoogie: more individual freedoms, not hard to see why conservatives would want that is it? Sure the party has gone awry in the last four years, but you don\'t change your affiliation because of one bad apple....
guy: take a good read at the frank zappa book... you\'ll see what i mean
CowwCowBoogie: umm, i\'ll think for myself, thanks though

UGH.

That conversation was definitely pretty retarded.  I am a fiscal conservative as well, due especially to my solid understanding of micro and macro economics.  Many people (like the one above) have no clue about economic drivers and are brainwashed by the demogogues.  In fact, fraudulent economic policy is what most people know.   John Kerry\'s rhetoric makes him an Economics 101 failure because most of the crap he says doesn\'t work in reality.  I am sure he knows plenty more than me about global macroeconomics but is spewing the old myths just to scare and sway voters his way.  I don\'t trust him either.  I think he is a terrible guy with absolutely no agenda other than to promote himself.  I have lived under his "leadership" for 20 years in Massachusetts and he hasn\'t really done much other than get his nails and hair done while staying at expensive vacation homes.  I can\'t stand Ted Kennedy, though I can say that he does work hard to promote his agenda in the Senate, something Kerry hasn\'t done.  I would have been happier if any of the other primary candidates got the nod over Kerry.  I hope there are some more dynamic and genuine candidates the next time around.  I am so sick of this election and have been waiting for it to end for months.  The Dems. barely differ from Bush on social issues.  I would love to see a mainstream candidate who took a bold stand and said we need to legalize marijuana for recreation and medicinal purposes or not tamper with same sex couples.  Kerry tries to play the middle so he isn\'t much of a departure from Bush on that stuff.

I think we can learn a lot if we give many perspectives the time of day before writing them off.  I consider myself a liberatarian but do not think some of their ideas while ever mesh with the mainstream (like shrinking government to the size of a pea).  They do have some interesting ideas on economic and social freedom though.

I can\'t understand how anyone can be truly excited about either Bush or Kerry.

At least we have the Breakfast to follow in times of trite politics.

Yes. I am registered as an independent because no party\'s platform is quite right for me, but I think the libertarian views come closer to mirroring my views than any other. However, I do have some major disputes with the libertarian party as well, particularly the border issue. I do not think this country can have open borders...
