This may sound stupid, but they could open with... The Curtain (With)... It would show that they\'re starting up where they left off.
Personally, I like both YEM and Farmhouse, but you can\'t even compare the two. I remember getting a Farmhouse encore in NJ in \'03 and it bummed me out almost as much as getting a Brian and Roberts encore in NJ in \'99... the only difference is they made up for it by following up with Frankenstein. Let\'s get back to the balls to the wall fun and leave the sappy,
****-break
**** at home.
Yoda, for possibly the first time ever, i totally agree with you.... i don\'t imagine they will actually open with the curtainwith but that would certainly say something HUGE to the fans (especially if they play it in the correct key from the start!) and would be awesome
this would never happen, but starting with 2001 right out of the gate would be SER. no loop effect intro, just dead silence followed by fishman\'s infamous beat...
I think a lot of the said suggestions would be solid. So far a nailed Fluffhead would be the most epic imo, and 2001 would certainly be the
**** dave. For some reason I can hypothetically picture the atmosphere and feel the vibe better with a 2001 opener than any other. I know it\'s a cover, but it would get people movin, the skeptics wouldn\'t be ridiculously focused on every note, it has that simple guitar hook up the ladder>>crash to get the crowd super riled up--cheers tied in with the music, and suspense would build for the first original Phish tune lurking around the corner.

Why infamous?
i use that word out of context more than you could imagine...
Understood. Infamous=in(credibly)famous? Happens all the time. I\'ve fallen victim. I thought you meant his beat has been known to cause wookie convulsions on iowasca leading to death in groves or something. Like Hitler with the Jews. Fishman with wookies. I guess Fish is unintentional though. :chin:

It\'d be just like the opening of the "Elvis Live from Hawaii" disc I have. While the band plays 2001, I always picture a group of handlers getting Elvis out on stage using a handtruck. God I love that fat bastard!

upload that show please.
please.
we listened to it in the parking lot of gotv several years back and i had it at one time but have no clue where it is or where to find it.
my favorite part of the show is when a druggedout elvis is introducing the band and while introducing a backup singer you can hear him clear as day say,"whats your name again honey"?
**** hilarious.
I was thinking a Cinncinati opener would be fun. They could walk onstage and play in the dark, and slowly, as the song progresses, burst forward into a frenzied light show.
Other than that I would enjoy a Chalkdust Torture Reprise opener.
I think it\'s because I\'m too nostalgic for the old ways, and because I\'m thinking this is another edition of \'history repeats itself\'. I actually hope the new run makes me change my mind. I would enjoy being made a fool if it means they actually stay cleaned up and keep on practicing. Either way, surely I\'m still a fool to think in the past.
You seem stuck in the past. You walk into one of these phish shows, with the right frame of mind, I\'m betting you\'ll walk out energized about this next phase of phish. Those guys are way too talented for anything less. Now that Trey is (and will hopefully remain) clean, sky\'s the limit IMO.
thank you for saying something positive because i have spent the last couple days gagging and dont have it in me for anymore...i just dont understand why it all has to be picked apart...cant we just be excited about going to be a band that used to really mean something to us...wont it be fun to just wait for the lights to go down and the energy to pump up and to just hear some tunes that we never thought we would ever hear again....yeah they might be good...yeah they might be bad....but at least we get to find out...i dont know i spent alot of time, energy, bucks and brain cells on them and i am just really glad that once again i can see some old friends and twirl around...

in general, i dont think this thread has been very negative at all. It seems to me its been mostly joyful excitement, with a lot of (probably wrong) predictions about what they will play.
i know im incredibly pumped, thats for sure.
IMHO the more positive/sober fans, the more likely Phish will return to their top notch playing. It\'s all about "synergy". As the scene declined, so did the music.
Phish for me has always been a spiritual experience. Before I knew what meditation was their music put me fully into the present. Their music has always opened my heart to the point where I would become pure, expanding love. At shows I\'d be able TO BE, and it was perfect. You would see a stranger dancing next to you and just share the perfect moment, during the perfect note. All lines of duality were erased and only bliss existed.
That has always been my experience of Phish, at least up until the first hiatus. When they returned the energy was gone and the scene and music were at its worse. Missed notes/chords, Mike too low in the mix, Trey way too high.... and Undermind ::shivers::
Hopefully people, both band members and fans have learned their lessons and can now co-create a new and better energy. And just maybe, one day, maybe not during Hampton, hell maybe not this year.... we\'ll get a
**** Fluffhead.
Heavy Things Opener........
no really how about Alive Again
