Question for the techies out there.
Have just upgraded from my 512k to a 2MB line, changing isps in the process.
My problem is while I can get download speeds of approaching 200kb, my maximum d/l on a BT is only 10-15!! Have gone searching for a torrent with loads of seeders on dime and am connected to 23 out of 28 seeds and 1 of 1 leechers. At this rate, a 382 MB show is going to take over 10 hours!! I don\'t dare start the breakfast at moe.down...
Have just switched to Azureus from the old shadow client but it hasn\'t improved matters.

Help!!!
I was sloooow this morning to.
do you have a firewall on your machine ? It sounds like you are behind a firewall and thats why the speeds are so slow.

What I thought, but checked the bt.etree page for peers on the breakfast moe show and have this:
xx.xxx.xx.31:6881 Azureus 2.2.0.2 0 B 0 B N/A 12.99%
N/A N/A 13033 days, 17:52:23 N/A 2:58
Everyone in the swarm has been connected 13033 days on this and every torrent on etree - something weird going on!! I am also not firewalled on the shows I\'m trying to leech from dimeadozen.
Think I may have found the reason (now, if only someone can help me solve it!!)
Checked my User stats on dimeadozen and I have the following message:
Firewalled ports
Port Reason Explanation
6881 protocol error 1 no/erroneous BT client listening or misconfigured router
So, I do not show up as firewalled. I don\'t have a router so it can\'t be that. So how do I configure BT client listening?
I am running the following:
XP - Windows firewall off
Zone Alarm 3.7.193
Azureus 2.2.0.2
Zone alarm is your firewall. I have it as well on my BT machine and sometime ZA and azerus dont play nice together. What I would do is simply shut down azerus or whatever Bit Torrent software you are using. Remove the program listing from ZA. Then I would would reboot.
After reboot. launch the Bit torrent software and ZA will ask you for permission (at least it should). when it asks permission just grant it and have it remember (if u want) that should allow whatever ports Azerus needs access incoming and outgoing.
Tried it - didn\'t work, though I no longer have the "6881 protocol error 1 no/erroneous BT client listening or misconfigured router" error. Still majorly slow on the BT front.
I didn\'t read above, but you also have to remember that it\'s a P2P protocol, it\'s not gonna utilize your whole connection...
2mb, cable is up around 8 for 60 bux a month i heard?
I have dsl which blows monkey balls...i didn\'t mind 128 down/256 up, that is why there was a slight advantage over cable back when broadband was first introduced to the public...because cable was 128 up and dsl was 256 up, making it easier to run servers ect..so anyways, dsl has gone to down to 128 up...i\'m thinking of the 8mb cable, i have no clue if my parents are under contract with GayBC (SBC)...
Have had a 512 line for 2.5 years and always managed at least 15-20 down, even on a new BT. I\'m not expecting light speed - but I don\'t even get what I had on 512. Must be something with my new connection. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
man who do you get your DSL from ?
I have 3.0Mbps / 768Kbps which is really 3360 / 864

Cable compnay tends to limit upstream capacity much more than DSL because you have to share the bandwidth on cable unlike DSL.
But it really comes down to who your provider is. I happen to be lucky in this area because I work for an ISP, but we as a company do not block ports, we allow our customers to run servers etc and we don\'t limit bandwidth what you pay for is what you get
well FIOS is pretty crazy. We will be able to sell a similar product as well just cant call it FIOS. They have people on it here in Westchester already but they (Verizon) are rolling it out slowly. Mostly to folks outside of the 18,000ft cut off (you have to be closer than 18,000ft from the local telphone office to get any DSL).
They only have it available to residential customers and they completely change how phone service is brought in. They have to install a brand new NID (Network Interface Device) and battery back up system incase your power goes out. The install is pretty obtrusive at this point but the speed is killer.
It will kill cable when it really gets going becasue this is the service Verizon wnats to use to provide TV type services as well as data and telco.
i want this... badly...

Kindm\'s, thanks for putting it in lames terms. I figured it was along those lines of a super hyper ludicrous speed internet connection. I just got confused with FISO.
what about if im in a dorm room. couldnt download through bt last semester either. i have a ez armour firewall. anyone know how i can get around their network, if not I guess I\'ll have to lget bfast shows of the archive
you can get around their network but........
it would require a decent know how to do. Do you know anything about creating an SSH tunnel ?
