thanks, I\'m well aware of Clapton\'s entire library. But you did remind me that some of his older stuff was decent, so I\'ll say he\'s better than SRV.
I say Tim is a better blues player because probably like many people when you think of blues you can actually think of blues. The whole point of blues is playing from the heart. Tacked on to this idea by players like SRV is that you have to play in only a couple major keys; that all you gotta play is 3 or 5 note licks, pause, and repeat... making sure the last note sustains with that predictable tremolo... as well as establishing a pretty limited variation in tempo.
What I\'m saying is people like SRV have made "blues" ultra-predictable, easy on the ears (like pop music), and have basically standardized a number of "blues licks".
This is a bastardization of the genre and the art of playing from the heart.
As everyone here knows Tim has one huge advantage over SRV: he\'s sure as hell not predictable. And Tim doesn\'t settle on something even if it sounds fantastic he\'ll do it different next time even if its not quite as good. Also Tim has thousands of licks instead of SRV\'s 12 licks that are repeated over and over making ever of his songs sound the same.
Plus Tim is:
faster
smarter
taller
way more freakin original
actually changes the tone of his guitar from time to time
Therefore I say Tim is a better blues player than SRV. But thank the good lord Tim rarely plays in the traditional/bastardized "blues" style!
....
Tricky Ways sounded to me like it was trying to fit in very smoothly with this style, and IMO had no originality to it. Probably a good song for most other bands, but Breakfast is WAY beyond this IMO.
