oh I am. Stevies got like 12 licks and 1 tone and 1 style and zero soul

I actually think Tim\'s a much better blues player. And I also don\'t consider what SRV plays to be real blues, because how much blues can you really have right after snarfing up an 8 ball of coke in one line??

Eppy3 @ Iron Horse = better blues playin than I\'ve ever heard from SRV

IMO as a Strat playin guitarist SRV is way over-rated. Second only to "slow hands" Clapton

OK I can get someone not liking SRV but saying Tim is a better Blues player is ludicrous.
Really.
Tim is a very good Blues player @ best and he has got to be trying.

As for Clapton you really should relisten to his real Blues work before he got famous,  stuff w/ the Bluesbreakers etc.

thanks, I\'m well aware of Clapton\'s entire library. But you did remind me that some of his older stuff was decent, so I\'ll say he\'s better than SRV.

I say Tim is a better blues player because probably like many people when you think of blues you can actually think of blues. The whole point of blues is playing from the heart. Tacked on to this idea by players like SRV is that you have to play in only a couple major keys; that all you gotta play is 3 or 5 note licks, pause, and repeat... making sure the last note sustains with that predictable tremolo... as well as establishing a pretty limited variation in tempo.

What I\'m saying is people like SRV have made "blues" ultra-predictable, easy on the ears (like pop music), and have basically standardized a number of "blues licks".

This is a bastardization of the genre and the art of playing from the heart.

As everyone here knows Tim has one huge advantage over SRV: he\'s sure as hell not predictable. And Tim doesn\'t settle on something even if it sounds fantastic he\'ll do it different next time even if its not quite as good. Also Tim has thousands of licks instead of SRV\'s 12 licks that are repeated over and over making ever of his songs sound the same.

Plus Tim is:
faster
smarter
taller
way more freakin original
actually changes the tone of his guitar from time to time

Therefore I say Tim is a better blues player than SRV. But thank the good lord Tim rarely plays in the traditional/bastardized "blues" style!

....

Tricky Ways sounded to me like it was trying to fit in very smoothly with this style, and IMO had no originality to it. Probably a good song for most other bands, but Breakfast is WAY beyond this IMO.

Well to each his own.
I have seen all 3 guitarists mentioned more than once and imo SRV was a master everytime. He easily went between pure blues playing and the bastard rock/blues you seem to have contempt for.
Clapton @ points made you remember his past greatness.
Tim playing the blues seems forced. I\'ll give you his creativity as a guitar player is out of this world but in the realm of the blues it seems he is mortal.

Oh and this is by no means a headier than thou post. I can only gauge Tim on what I have seen and heard first hand. That being said, Tim does have the potential to be a great blues player.
I mean he is only what 26? If he focused more on his blues playing and say his cat died(does he even have a cat?) or something like that to make him actually have the blues he would be incredible.
as you said though luckily he does not venture there often.

bdfreetuna, you really should have seen srv. your opinion would be *completely* different. probably should have seen clapton, too.

tim is an undeniably fantastic guitarist, but that\'s the boldest fucking statement i\'ve ever heard, and, unfortunately, its wildly wrong. i can see why you think that, its just that you\'re wrong. your opinion is valid, but your reasoning isn\'t.

sorry.

I\'ve seen SRV play live and wasn\'t impressed at all. Whatever... my point is:

Tribal Funk Afflication is the future of dank music! Why should Breakfast bust out cliched blues when they can do stuff like this??

...

btw I didn\'t really mean to start trashing and building up various guitar players. Since I am a guitar player I have pretty solid opinions on this stuff, but I know its an argument that goes nowhere cuz its basically all opinion. SRV is obviously very good at what he does, but IMO what he does isn\'t that cool and is pretty limited. IMO what Tim does is supercool and mad diverse. that\'s all :)

they are breaking in all the new songs right now so expect to see it around. timmy ray palms! i\'m still not sure how i feel about this song. it\'s probably my least favorite new tune, but i\'m gonna give it another couple times live to see if it will grow on me. it might have potential to be jammed out nicely.

Can someone pls ask Tim why Tricky Ways is
« Reply #24 on: May 25, 2006, 02:38:17 am »
being played at every frickin\' show?
Since it\'s introduction on 4/21 it has been played at EVERY show except for 4/25 and 5/4.
Has any song (PB or Bfast) recieved this type of treatment before?
I know Inner Glimpse was played a heck of alot but I don\'t think even it was played as consistently as this song is.

Oh and they\'re really fuckers in that every performance of the song is in a segue, so just deleting the track when burning a show just screws things up. Damn!

OK \'nuff whining.

I love that song!  I\'m glad it\'s being played regularly... it seems like a great n00b intro song for tB - it\'s catchy, fun & a great song to segue into/out of

Well glad you like it Robyn but as far as a great noob song.
If that was the first song I heard by them I would never listen to this band again.
It\'s as catchy as a bangkok hooker, fun as having your fingernails pulled and a great song to segue out my ass. IMO
