The greatest dummer in the world...
« on: January 31, 2007, 08:05:02 pm »
...is ProTools.  I came to this conclusion after spending a day in a recording studio with Rev. Xuxa Godbody and the Apocalyptic Beach Party as a part of their horn section.  Between ProTools and AutoTuner, I now have no faith in the musicianship of any band that I have never seen live.  This is probably old news to those of you who have previously sat in on some kind of recording session, but my mind is now officially blown by technology.

interesting, i\'d like to see this.
3-4-05:  Inspired, enlightened, surprised, excited, confused, evoked euphoria, focused, newfound faith in music.

That is a pretty big statement coming from a child of the digital and internet age........
Technology is truly amazing.....
The thing that kills me about it is that merely 50 - 60 years ago computers were the size of houses......I have been amazed just thinking about "popular technology" from my grandparents and parents era.....i even knew my great grandparents on my dads side, and man they were old and from a different world completely.(though there is a large population that live with little to know technology due to many reasons, but that is for another thread.....Have we hit a lul in the technological explosion?  Cause if not, we could be flyin round in cars in 10-15 years......well maybe not cars but a ser hoverboard a al back to the future II would be cool......

Regardless, I will argue to my death that this thread is truly about Adrian Tromantano.....

And here\'s why they no longer are:

The transistor is considered by many to be one of the greatest inventions in modern history, ranking in importance with the printing press, car and Haber–Bosch process. It is the key active component in practically all modern electronics. Its importance in today\'s society rests on its ability to be mass produced using a highly automated process (fabrication) that achieves vanishingly low per-transistor costs.

Technically it is possible to create a hoverboard in several different ways. Tests have been made into using Ferrofluids as a base element. In theory, it\'s simple reversal of magnatism. If you hold two magnets next to each other they either get stuck, or they push away from each other a specific distance. Since there is trace amounts of metal in all things, and all metal can be magnatized, you can theoretically design something to combat the reversal of the magnetic force in the ground, causing an end result of levetation. The problems arise in 1. size, 2. getting a responsive magnetic charge to the ground, 3. what happens when you change surface (i.e. the street to the grass to concrete sidewalk, cause as we all know, those boats don\'t work on water, unless you got power). and 4. It may be strong enough to support itself levetating, but can it hold an additional 150~ lbs? Two magnets will fight against each other, but if you push hard enough they will come together. However, if you release the pressure, one of them will go flying, so imagine where that board is going once fatso decideds it doesn\'t work and steps off?

Another (proven) way is to use known hover technology, i.e. push air down against the earth to create enough pressure to cause lift strong enough to carry the human and it\'s own weight. Again, problems arise in that this one uses fuel and you need to supply that somehow, which increases the weight, which increases the size of the craft. Catch22. The bigger the board is, the more fuel you need and it just keeps growning exponentially. You would need something at least the size of a surfboard for this to work.

I could get into flying cars, but I doubt anyone cares that much.

Yea, Adrian is a much better DUMMER[/b] than Pro-tools. :sigh:

Amen on the fiction of studio musicianship these days.  Anyone - even Madonna - can now sing on key.

Look for "intentional" mistakes or sloppy playing in the future kept in the mix to assure the listener that what they\'re hearing is real.   Of course, Neil Young has been doing that for decades...................
Just looking for peace.  Seriously.
