I can\'t deny it anymore.. I love this band
« on: December 14, 2006, 02:28:17 pm »
Walking through the dark and unseasonably warm streets of Burlington last night I indulged myself in listen #22 of Moxie Epoxy (sans Tricky Ways).  I just can\'t deny myself the joy I get out of this band. Sure I\'ve moved on musically and I don\'t exactly agree with the direction their going, but I still think they have something REALLY special.  It\'s like their able to tap into this lost 70\'s energy that gives them a somewhat antiquated sound, of course this is meant as a compliment.  I\'ve tried to denounce them multiple times for a pleorethra of reasons, many personal, others unfounded and irrational. but in the end I can\'t deny that this band gave me multiple euphoric peak experiences back in 2001, nor can I deny that TLATG>Over Exposure has turned into comfort food for my ears whenever I get depressed.  I truly hope things change for this band on a professional level. I personally want to see them succeed and be able to write more and more songs of  semi recent caliber (I won\'t lie, I think Rust and Tricky Ways are possibly the two worst/generic songs they have).  I meant for this to be longer but I have to go to a job interview....

See ya at Nectar\'s... Here\'s hoping for a Mooboo\'s trio debut.

Glad to hear we are back to "I love The Breakfast" on the ever-revolving wheel of Joe.

Haven\'t heard rust yet, though I have also gotten the impression it is generic.

I will admit it took me a while to realize the power of some of the newer tunes, largely due to me not seeing/downloading the band very frequently.  Once I heard the album a couple times and saw the band live again (after no Breakfast for 6 months), tunes like Future Peek really dug in.

what sucks is the album is so good and nobodies even really talking about it.

Most of the songs on the album are blown out of the water by almost any recent live version of said song...

Future Peek, Overexposure, Intension... prime examples

Oh yeah and the production quality / sound levels sound so one-dimensional, like Real Radio style, I just can\'t put that out of my mind when I\'m listening to both these albums. It makes my nice Alpine stereo sound like a piece of crap. I have friends with amateur recording gear that can make a track sound more dimensional and less muddy. Somehow they managed to pull of a nice clean sound on Duece I honestly don\'t know what the deals been since then. Rocking harder is all well and good but I\'d still like to be able to hear all the parts and different instruments in detail..

But really this is to the bands live performance credit, I doubt they will ever put out a truly mind blowing album (ALA CONCEPT ALBUM) unless they hook up with a really visionary producer.

... or they just release a "best of" two-disc live album!

I wasn\'t too big a fan of Rust at first, Al.  But as of late its really been coming into its own.  I expect good things to come of Rust in \'07.
