ok a quick run down of the band/weekend:
Thurs night when we first got there were all the shitty bands they were smart enough not to put on for the general population, just the assholes who showed up super early (right here) I\'ve heard people say good things about
U-Melt but they just don\'t do it for me. All their songs sound very similiar, and they come close to reaching a pinnacle of the jam and then it flattens out and the song fizzles out without actually doing anything. I much prefered them as A440 when they had a vocalist that could actually fuckin sing. The Thurs night late night set was The
burnin Smyrnin (sp?) I didn\'t actually go to the concert field but could easily hear them from our campsite. Maybe just cause I didn\'t like anything I heard early in the day but I did like these guys they were fun and kinda funky. I also saw the guitarist and sax player doing a little acoustic duo between sets the next day wich was also kinda cool. Oh, I almost forgot about
Dj Spam I also def liked these guys perfect sitting at the camp yakin with friends and drinkin a few beers music. was glad to be at the camp though and not infront of the stage.
Friday was pretty much an all day anticipation for the Breakfast. Trying to get cell service so we could get in touch with the van to figure out when they\'d get there, (and we needed more beer too
) I really don\'t remember what came on before them, I wasn\'t really paying attention. But the guys played a good set with a ser Psygn, the proposal was beautiful, it was a great moment in Breakfast history I was glad to be there for. After that we mostly hung out with the boys in the band, I went baloon hunting with the crew (Gencs Gabo and Ellis) stopped by to see Daffodil and JKing to congratulate. The boys then had to leave, and I was sad
Then
Cosmic Charlie came on and did two sets, I\'m really not a huge dead fan and I\'m even less of a fan of cover bands so my interst was no exactly peaked, and really how can anyone follow the Breakfast?
Saturday I saw much of the better music of the weekend.
Burnin Smyrnans did another set, this one mid day so obvioulsy not as nuts as the Thurs late night but cool anyway. Made a special point to be back from the lake (beautiful campground btw) for
DJ Williams Projekt who IMHO was the best band of the weekend (other than the obvious
) These guys are fuckin great if you ever have a chance to check them out DO IT!! Great guitar player very jazzy very funky, and very fun. Kind of a DBB Robert Randolph soulive vibe. AWESOME band. Then came
Moonshine Still, I had never heard these guys before and was very interested because they were one of the bands up against the B\'Fast for best new groove in \'04. I was def impressed, they had a good light show and I liked their jams, don\'t remember too much specifically but I remember I liked them. I would like to hear more though to get a better idea of what they\'re really all about. Then
Barefoor Manner did their two sets, I know it was their fest and all but honestly they were putting me to sleep (which was a hard thing to do under those current circumstances
)I was not impressed at all. Went to the concert area watched for maybe 20 min and went back to the tent to sit in the dark.
Ok, the final band of the weekend I have mixed feeling about.
Midnight Spaghetti & Chocolate G-Strings are one of the oddest bands I have ever seen take the stage. They are very funky and a good band. But the lead singer was another one of those white boy funk rappers. I looked at Todd and Robyn at one point and said something along the lines of "I kinda just want to hit him and I don\'t know why" As FreeSpirit mentioned earlier they had alot of costumes and stage antics. Too me it just seemed like they were trying to hard, if you can play good music just do it, enough with the stage shenanigans, I would rather see a good light show then see the lead singer act like a bafoon for 2 1/2 hrs. But as I said the band was good. We then with Todd and Robyn dragging me along took a midnight hike up what was eventually named stumble hill, came back down and heard a band playing (it was prob 4:30 at this point) went to check it out and
Midnight Spaghetti & Chocolate G-Strings had moved their set up from the main stage to a little tent in the camping area and was
still playing. I almost prefered them in this scenario because they dropped all the antics, no get ups, just tunes. There were free balloons going around and everyone was getting down. This went on until I went to bed around 7 or 8, and they were still playing.
So all in all I had a great time at Camp Barefoot, I think the festival was def a success. I would certainly go again, esp since I hear a dirty little rumour about the boys playing for much longer next year.
