Ugh. I got pretty happy when I initially read this...but it\'s $50! I know you\'re friends with some members of the band so do you know if they plan on doing a show Friday night too? My friend from TN is back in town this weekend and used to travel with me all the time to see these guys but $50 is a lot, even if it is a midnight-2am slot. Any additional information would be great, thanks!

Well, it\'s not very imaginative, but...

07/31 - Jefferson Starship
08/01 - Jefferson Starship (with possibly a Jerry tribute portion of the set)

08/26 - Jeferson Starship (private show and new album listening party)
08/27 - Quicksilver Messenger Service
08/29-31 - Rhythm Festival, Bedford - JS, QMS, Richie Havens, Big Star, Steve Cropper, Zombies, Pretty Things, Man, Geno Washington etc etc

Holy what century are you in batman!

What is the current lineup of starship?
Quicksilver is still touring?

Century? Hell, decent music is timeless!!

UK tour is, I think, Paul Kantner, David Freiberg, Chris Smith (keys), Cathy Richardson (vocals - Diana Mangano has quit touring, as has Prairie Prince) and Tony Morley (British guy) on drums. Slick Aguilar is normally lead guitar, but it\'s Ferenzik, then Pevar for this tour. Marty Balin is an semi-regular member for US tours and a very occasional member elsewhere. They are promoting their new album thsi tour - very acoustic with covers on it by the Weavers and Phil Ochs alongside PK originals - going to be interesting to see how it goes down with folks expecting a psych freakout!

As for QMS, it\'s David Freiberg on acoustic/vocals, Gary Duncan on lead/vocals, Chris Smith, keys, DF\'s wife, Linda Imperial on backing and some lead vocals and the bass player and drums tend to vary  - UK will be Tony M on drums, with Ferenzik or Pevar on bass. It\'s hard to believe, but this year will be the first time ever QMS have played in the UK. It would be really cool if DF took up the bass again to allow a second lead guitar like the old days, but he told me last tour it\'s not going to happen.

I actually ment that as a compliment...

I don\'t know if I\'d go see a Starship concert in the states or world-wide, but i\'ll definetly check out QMS next time they come around.

That reminds me, I should look out for Hot Tuna too.

they\'ll play a lot later than 2am.  NO FRIDAY NIGHT SHOW.  this is also with original bass player, drew mccabe, and a special guest appearance by yours truly on a handful of tunes.  DEFINITELY the only show they\'ll be playing this summer and possibly the only one for the rest of the year.  (although i\'ll bet they\'ll do a weekend in nov or dec.)

How did this turn out? Any tapers on hand?

I really hope they do another 2 night run in upstate this winter. Fortunately, their last 2 little runs had a show in Syracuse each time!

Make sure you see the right group with Starship in the title!!

Jefferson Starship is the real deal, with founder members Paul Kantner and David Freiberg and longtime member Donny Baldwin, alongside guys who\'ve been wioth the band a long time. Expect some JS classics including Ride the Tiger, Miracles and Jane, but mainly Airplane material mixed in with some folk stuff off the new album as well as DF doing some Quicksilver stuff.

Starship (featuring Mickey Thomas) is just MT with hired hands - expect the crap that came out in the mid-eighties - We Built this Shitty, Nothing\'s Gonna Stop Us (cashing in) etc. Band doesn\'t even have Craig Chaquico on guitar anymore - he jumped ship just after Grace, meaning there were no "classic" era JS members left except for MT, who was only brought in to replace Marty Balin in the first place.
