couldnt have been more than 30 people there last night. the show was solid although the sound was pretty shitty in this place. Gencs constructed the first set and had a part in the second. i didnt know this until after Funky Bill\'s which i was extremely surprised to hear, especially just in the middle of a first set.
Good Things > Honey Butter > HDX > Honey Butter was siiiiiick. the segue into HDX was flawless as usual and the set finished like a lion, huge energy.
i think Mayfly actually owned the 2nd set even with the Lit. Superfly was pretty thick too. im a huge fan of Surreal Radio, was excited to hear it live and it was even better than i expected. Tricky Ways is alright, it sounds like a cover actually. kind of obvious swingy blues, but still enjoyable.
Psygn was absolutely the best song of the night. The boys hit another dimension, escaping the somewhat awkward claustrauphobic (sp??) feel of the room. they really peaked out in Psygn just in time for the end of a good night.
overall it was far from the best ive seen em play, but still plenty of brilliant moments. i just felt the vibe was a little weird last night. the venue was like an old-school movie theater with a balcony, not small but very narrow walls. the crowd up front played like there was a rope five feet from the stage sealing them off. there was still some gettin down but not like ive seen. the guys running sound for the venue didnt know what they were doing and you could hear it. Dobs ran over a few times to tidy shit up, the kids just looked confused.
either way i had a good time and enjoyed everything. i was just let down by the turnout after their atomic bomb last time in madison. tonight should be an insane set. spirits will no doubt be high at the HOB. on a sidenote, tim\'s hair looks hilarious.
