Anyone know of The Fillmore tradition
« on: April 12, 2006, 11:50:36 am »
of handing out red apples to patrons as they enter and handing out posters of the show as they leave?

Well The Fillmore has been doing this for 40 years now and is one of the cool"little things" that makes it such a sweet venue.

Anyway for the first time in 40 years the apples they handed out @ TLG\'s show were GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A very very cool gesture from The Fillmore to Tea Leaf Green and their fans,
seeing as it was their first headlining gig there.

Oh and they did sell it out.

I just read Bill Graham\'s biography and the history of the Fillmore. An interesting documentary if you like rock and roll, is "Temple\'s Of Rock". It tells about all the venues who made rock what it is today. but yeah, I know a little bit bout the Fillmore Tradition.
Love many, trust few and don\'t be late.

I more important question would be does anyone know the Phil McCracken tradition...
If trees could scream do you think we would be so cavalier to cut them down? Maybe if they screamed all the time for no good reason.

Probably the worst thing about having King Kong run rampant in your town would be the huge, monster genitalia.

I wish I had a kryptonite cross, because then I could keep Dracula and Superman away.

Yea! Am I the only one who listens to Shostakovich around here?!!! 1905 is by far one of the best song ever written! And what about John Cage, Charles Ives, Edgar Varese, Igor Stravinsky (Petruskia!), not to mention the structurally complex post mordern aleatoric scores of Pierre Boulez? Give me some heady algorithmic compositions anyday!

d00d, 4 minutes and 33 seconds is one heady track... in all seriousness though, congrats to the boys in TLG for selling the place out... Leith- did you make it to the CBB set a while back???
Not sure what is gonna transpire. Regardless, we ain\'t gonna forget the gravy.

What\'s up Leith!  I\'m just now returning from my vacation out west and yes I did go to the Fillmore on 4/7 to see TLG.  Very good venue and a good show - except I did not recognize one song TLG played except for "lets all ride together." Where was Kali Yuga, Baseball Jam, Gasaholic, Earth and Sky, Midnight on the Reservoir, etc? - Oh well it was good to see them play new material.  They obviously have a shitload of new songs and I\'m sure I will acquire a taste for this new material.  I was surprised to get frisked, it being San Franscisco and all - but I have devised many ways to get around that problem.  I also enjoyed visiting the boom boom room while in SF, and I hiked basically every trail there is in Marin county.  I wish I could have gotten to SF earlier to see the Breakfast, but my schedule would\'nt allow it.

One final thought on the Breakfast experience out west:  After seeing 2 nights of the Breakfast in Arizona, I realized what an idiot I was for not finding a way to see more shows.  I will not make this mistake again.  When and if they do a southern tour I will make sure to see as many shows as humanly possible, esp if they cover North Carolina/ Georgia.  And next time they go out west, I will plan my trip around the Breakfast schedule!

Hey now! The show @ the Fillmore saw 4 new song debuts. The setlist was actually full of songs they have been playing the past year and a half.

As I have been telling many folk TLG has turned it up a notch and are a very different band then they were just this past New Year.

The constant touring has turned them into a very tight band.
Oh and the lighting was spectacular don\'t you think?

The cool thing about this show was they were able to rock the place out even w/o some of the heavy hitters you mentioned.

Also most of those were played @ the private( for forum members only) acoustic show the next day. I really wish I could have stayed for that!

As for your Bfast comments, yeah you should have hit more shows, I got 8 and that BARELY sufficed.

It is impressive to see a band play so much new material - it shows they have a huge repertoire and unlimited creative ideas.  It\'s fun to hear that familiar hit song you know and love, but I\'ve always been into NEW music.  Otherwise I would be going to $80 bullshit concerts like the Eagles or Rolling Stones or some other overplayed FM radio band.

And that free poster on the way out was totally cool - that is basically a $20 poster at most merch tables.

New? Ha! I could\'ve sworn they played a cover @ Toad\'s Place when I saw them, but when I asked the keyboardist he got insulted & said he didn\'t play any that night...  Either way, it sounded a lot like 40 other songs I\'ve heard in the past few years... still TLMeh to me ;)
