Coda has a reputation for having good bands so that will help bring in some walk-up customers.
A lot of people find stuff to do and see in the city by looking through the free papers. Because of this Coda maintains an ad in the weekly free papers that lists their upcoming shows. The band might benefit from an ad in there that lists some high-profile sounding dates leading up to the Coda show as well as the Coda show itself. Maybe even tag a mini-tour name on it to make it sound like an event as opposed to just another show. I don\'t expect ad space to be cheap but it might be worth consideration. The papers also have weekly event listings which the band should try to get listed on. I am not sure if they charge for this.
Here are the papers I am thinking of
The Voice
New York Press
The Onion
Posters tend to get lost amidst all of the other mega-budget ads vying for space on subway walls and construction sites. Madonna at MSG, Ghostface Killah\'s Fishscale, Morrissey coming to town etc. are all battling for my attention on my commute. The Breakfast can\'t compete with that scale of marketing and should not try. I find that personal interaction and free stuff works best in this city. Engage people directly, transfer your enthusiasm and then give them something tangible for free. Standing outside a venue and handing out flyers tends to result in a lot of trash on the ground. Attending a show by a different band and handing out flyers/sampler disks to people you meet and chat with tends to result in more people at the Breakfast.
Sorry for the ramble. Spacey can I get some flyers?
