I think I\'m going to cry now.

Yes, there\'s plenty more.  The Yankee\'s best offensive player and their closer do not play well against the Red Sox.  And I understand you don\'t watch every Sox game, but Papelbon is lights out with ANY lead.  You\'re obviously not aware of this, but he is 10-for-10 in save chances with 2 walks against 14 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.00.  It\'s not his fault that Ortiz, who does a lot more than just "play well" against the Yankees, hit a colossal 3-run bomb to give the Sox a 4-run lead.  A-Rod and Posada would have looked just as retarded against Papelbon even if it were a 1-run lead.

And you gotta love the Mirabelli madness.  Guy goes from State Police escort in California > jet > helicopter > Mass State Trooper Cruiser and runs into the park somehow already in full uni with under 10 minutes to spare.  That was freakin awesome!

^^^ he looks as sad as the Yankee pitching staff. I have ZERO confidence in the pitching staff on the Yankees.

I digress,

How bad is the rain in Bostonia? No TV here at work, but did notice the game has been delayed. Did Peck and crew makie it for the game?

Yeah tough day for team New England coming up for a canceled game.  Game is rescheduled as 1st game of day/night doubleheader Friday August 18th.  I\'ll gladly take it; the game will have much more important impact on the standings, will be in baseball weather, and I\'ll take the whole day off and go to game 2 as well.  I\'ve never been to a double-header, what better way to do it than Sox v. Yankees at Fenway.  Maybe Clemens will be pitching!

couldn\'t have asked for a better way for it to happen.. didn\'t even have to walk into the park, hung out in boston for a bit, got home at a decent hour, and get a late summer day game out of the deal..

There\'s 3.5 months to score some game 2 tickets to finish the huge day.  Actually, let\'s get The Breakfast to play an 11PM show in Boston (across the street from the park at Bill\'s Bar?!?!?!) for the super trifecta boom-shaka-laka!

Papelbon wins April DHL award
Boston righty converts 10 saves in as many opportunities
BOSTON -- For his perfect 10 during his first month as the closer of the Red Sox, Jonathan Papelbon was recognized on Thursday as Major League Baseball\'s Delivery Man of the Month for April. The award, sanctioned by Major League Baseball and sponsored by DHL, recognizes the most outstanding relief pitcher during each month of the regular season.
It would have been hard to top Papelbon\'s performance, as he was essentially flawless, converting 10 saves in as many opportunities.

Over 14 1/3 innings in April, Papelbon was unscored on and registered 14 strikeouts.

Papelbon\'s performance was impressive enough on its own, but even more so when you consider he wasn\'t even considered the closer when the season started.

But in the third game of the regular season, with the Red Sox holding a 2-1 lead in Texas, manager Terry Francona pulled off what was, at the time, a surprising move, asking Papelbon to close the game instead of Keith Foulke.

"Terry said if the ballgame is close, you\'re going to get the ball in the ninth, so be prepared," said Papelbon, recalling the events of that night. "From there on out, I\'ve basically kind of taken that role upon myself and just tried to do the best I can do."

Papelbon finally gave up a run on Wednesday, suffering a 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays. But his lights-out start in April was something to behold.

The Red Sox view Papelbon as a starting pitcher down the road. But right now, he is too invaluable as the closer.

"I like the competition, the fact that you have to go in there and be successful every day," Papelbon said. "You\'ve got to get outs right then and there -- the pressure is on."

Papelbon might have surprised everyone but himself by performing in such dominant fashion in April.

"I set my goals high. If you were going to tell me I would have had 10 saves and not given up a run, I would have believed it," Papelbon said. "That\'s just the way I go about it. It\'s not cocky, it\'s just confidence. It\'s just me going out there knowing who I am, knowing the pitcher that I am and going out there and executing."

The execution has been uncanny. With a 95-mph heater and a nasty split, opposing batters have looked bewildered trying to solve Papelbon.

The "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month Award" winner is selected by a special Major League Baseball "yellow-ribbon" panel that includes newly elected Hall of Fame pitcher Bruce Sutter; Lou Piniella, former manager and player; Mike Bauman, national columnist for MLB.com; Jerome Holtzman, the official MLB Historian and a member of the writer\'s wing of the Hall of Fame; and Bob Watson, vice president of on-field operations, Major League Baseball.

At the conclusion of the season, Major League Baseball fans will have the opportunity to determine which relief pitcher had the best overall season through the second annual DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award.

A list of finalists will be selected based on statistical qualifiers, and fans will be able to vote for the winner online at MLB.com. Last season, Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees was named the inaugural recipient of the DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award

Some Nuggets from Gammons:

Summary of Comments from ESPN\'s Peter Gammons on WEEI\'s Big Show Today: Gammons thinks there is more hostility toward Pedro Martinez than Johnny Damon, who is a genuine guy. According to Gammons, Pedro is going to take some heat upon his return to Boston and will probably get a little testy before he arrives. Gammons said that unlike Damon, Pedro departed simply because of more money and left Boston guns blazing because of his relationship with Curt Schilling.

Gammons added that David Wells threw well today and will throw again on Sunday. Then he\'ll debate with Sox management about a rehab start. He could be ready in a week to 10 days.

The Red Sox are worried about the double play combination\'s offense, Gammons said. If Alex Gonzalez continues to struggle, Gammons thinks the Sox will call up Dustin Pedroia to play some second base and shortstop, and give them a little offense.

What a soap opera. You\'d think fan reaction was more important then wins and ERAs. This thread is bogus.
