Morning Dew

I really, really love this song.... But I do NOT think the Breakfast have any business playing it...

With cover songs there are always three basic options:

1.) Cover the original recording
2.) Cover a cover
3.) Make the song over with a structure more akin to the performing bands tastes/abilities/likings

1962 Bonnie Dobson, At Folk City
1964 Vince Martin & Fred Neil, Tear Down the Walls
1966 Tim Rose, Tim Rose (original album by this name, of two), "Morning Dew" (single), plus later re-recordings
1967 Episode Six, "Morning Dew" single
1967 Grateful Dead, The Grateful Dead, plus 1969 and 1972 live albums
1968 Lulu, "Morning Dew" (single)
1968 The Allman Brothers Band, Dreams (anthology)
1968 Jeff Beck, Truth
1968 Ralph McTell, Eight Frames a Second
1968 Lee Hazlewood, Love and Other Crimes
1969 The Damnation of Adam Blessing, The Damnation of Adam Blessing
1969 Krokodil, Krokodil
1969 The Rats, The Fall And Rise—A Rat\'s Tale
1970 Salena Jones, Everybody\'s Talkin\' About
1971 Nazareth, Nazareth
1973 Clannad, Clannad
1980 Long John Baldry, Long John Baldry
1984 Blackfoot, Vertical Smiles
1985 Einstürzende Neubauten, Fünf Auf der Nach Oben Offenen Richterskala
1990 Devo, Smooth Noodle Maps
1992 Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes, The Lure of the Tropics
1993 Screaming Trees, "Butterfly" (single)
1997 King Loser, Caul of the Outlaw
1997 The Fatal Shore, "Fatal Shore"
2002 Robert Plant, Dreamland
2003 Mungo Jerry, Adults Only
2004 Audience, alive&kickin\'&screamin\'&shoutin\'
2006 Serena Ryder, If Your Memory Serves You Well
2007 Dirtmusic, Eckman/Race/Brokaw

Alot of people from a very diverse range of musical groups have covered it.

For the record: I don\'t necessarily think they should do Stevie\'s Spanking, but everyone should see this video. Now that is how a guitar solo is done.

Whatever happened to Badge (2/17/2007) and Heaven & Hell (2/1/07 and 3/8/07)? I thought they were both steps in the right direction, in terms of cover selection.

Also, what do I Wanna Get High, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Life\'s Been Good and Karma Police have in common? They were all Timmy Tour songs that found their way into Breakfast shows and then vanished. I\'m not passing judgment on any of those songs as good or bad choices, but I do like the idea that any song on Timmy Tour (or, for that matter, any song that one of the band members knows the lyrics to and the rest of the band more or less knows instrumentally) may pop up in a Breakfast setlist... played seriously, not 7/6/08 Daniel St. style.

It would be great to get some Zappa back in rotation. Also, please bring back Space Oddity and/or 2001!

If they\'re going to cover a Grateful Dead song I think The Other One or The Eleven would be more fitting that Morning Dew.

Agreeded in terms of playing style;

Cosmic Charlie, St. Stephen, The Elven, (full) The Other One, or New Potato Cabose, would all be good breakfast tunes.

Maybe Caution...

I bet the current Breakfast could do a killer Alabama Getaway.

The Other One was the only Dead cover that I always enjoyed at Breakfast shows (and Help > Slip, though I only saw it live once).

Granted, I was not around during the Terrapin Station days.

I\'ve never heard them play it.

Do they do:

Cyrptical Envelopment->That it\'s for the Other One->Cyprtical?

Or just That it\'s for the Other One?

Sometimes, when they are in a funky mood, their Shakedown is not bad.
