Well this is actually not real big news to me. In Led Zeppelin A Celebration a book by Dave Lewis who is recognized the world over as a Zeppelin "expert", The entry for Dazed and Confused reads like this" Originates from the mid-sixties,when it was known as an acoustic folk tune sung by Jake Holmes. In the Yardbird\'s, Jimmy arranged it as \'I\'m Confused\' and it was played live on stage and on radio sessions. For the debut album, Page added new lyrics, and spiced up the arrangement to extend the guitar played w/ a violen bow episode. It still retains an air of menace and drama, and crystillises the electricity developing between the four at the time. It also beautifully illustrates Jones\' walking bass style that lights up the track from start to finish.
Another book on Zeppelin also credits Jake Holmes\' song as the songs originating influence and even lists The Above Ground Sound of Jake Holmes.
If this appropriation of another person\'s song by Jimmy Page makes him a bad man then I guess Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir,Duane Allman, Keith Richards, etc. are all bad men as all of these guys have appropriated and rearranged songs from other writers and are now known for their version of the song or rather their version is known better than the original author\'s.
