Carnivale...best show ever????
« on: January 25, 2006, 04:34:44 am »
Seriously if you haven\'t heard of Carnivale its a series on HBO, and it is amazing! Check it out \'on demand\' or rent the first season on dvd.  It takes place in the \'30s and is about a young man who joins the traveling carnival and comes to realize he has powers not unlike jesus. The whole series  deals with the fight between good and evil, jesus vs. the devil, and supernatural happenings. The series is up to the caliber in terms of writing, character development, and cinematography as other HBO greats such as six feet under, sopranos, etc, and is much more action packed making it in my humble opinion the best of all the hbo series:shock2:

The first season is absolutely addicting and after watching the first episode on demand i quickly went out and rented the rest of the season only to finish all 12 episodes in under a week! i don\'t think i will be able to wait for the second to come out on dvd!!!  if you like the great television do yourself a favor and start watching!

Quote from: Stranger in a Strange Land: Plot
The story portrays Valentine Michael Smith\'s adaptation to, and understanding of, humans and their culture, which is portrayed as an amplified version of consumerist and media-driven 20th-century America. Smith is the son of two astronauts, raised by Martians on Mars, until he is taken "home" to Earth, where he is effectively imprisoned in a hospital by the government.

how do these sound similar? i don\'t get it

reading on i see what your saying....

Later, Smith moves out with Gillian and joins a traveling circus as a magician, but although his magic is real

sounds a bit different but still thats interesting...:hscratch:

anyway, the show is sick:D

the book has alot of similarities to the life of Jesus, and then he joins the circus, etc, etc. That\'s the connection I saw.

I just got HBO and have been watching tons of the Carnivale epiosodes on HBO on demand...

Fucked up show. Therefore, I really like it. Creeps me iout though. I watched a few last night and had a dream that I was a trick rider under a big top, but I was glued to the horse and couldn\'t do any of my tricks. That\'s what happens when you fall asleep at 4am after having not slept a real night\'s sleep since Fri night...

I\'d recomend \'Stranger from a Strange land\' to anybody -
In the film \'Rainbow Bridge\' as Jimi Hendrix comes aboard boat?? he is greeted as \'Stranger from a strange land\'
I read it while on psychic holiday in Crete - it was there waiting for me
