The OFFICIAL Breakfast Tennis Thread
« on: January 23, 2006, 11:12:21 pm »
Yeah, that\'s right, tennis. Big fan here. Jim Cobb took the initiative to start the U.S. Open thread, and though I never posted in it, it was motivation enough for me to create a launching pad for all tennis discussion. Yes, I am in fact ser. Hopefully, it does better than the NHL thread.

So, anybody want to engage in a thorough dissection of Nikolay Davydenko\'s, 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3, win over Dominik Hrbaty at the Australian Open. So, do ya?

boy....i was a big tennis fan years ago, but hardly know any players anymore. did see a little of the pilot pen this year and you have to be impressed with the athletes and the power in their games when you see it in person. as for the davydenko/hrbaty match....well......um.........i don\'t remember much about it  ;)

What a way to kick off the tennis thread: by talking about some media whore who hasn\'t played a match in two years.

If you wanna talk hot tennis players, Maria Sharapova looked less than spectacular (at least in terms of her game) in a win over Nadia Petrova last night. I say she loses to Justine Henin-Hardenne, who knocked off Davenport, in the semifinals.

federer said in an interview that he just loves playing the game of tennis. He wouldn\'t care if he ever won another match again in his life, he would still play because he loves the game. I respect anyone with that kind of attitude. (He was already one of my fav current players).

Normally I\'d be able to discuss the matches, but I haven\'t been on the crew this  open, so I havn\'t really been paying attention. I\'m with you though pitch - anna may be hot, but she is no where near the world class player they make her out to be in the media. :blah:

the thread title made me thinking the band was playing in a tennis match..

watched sharapova for a bit before bed last night.. she did NOT look good (tennis-wise), and i kinda figured she wasn\'t winning the match.. hopefully she gets it together.

The Henin-Hardenne vs. Sharapova match was one of the best I\'ve seen in recent years.

Henin-Hardenne broke Sharapova for a 4-3 lead in the first set, but dropped the next three games and lost 6-4. She then cruised through the second set.

Third set was intense. Sharapova got gipped by two terrible calls on would-be game-points, the first at 2-2, the second down 3-2, that put Henin-Hardenne in a commanding spot. But Sharapova still had a chance, down 5-4, yet leading that game 40-15 on serve with a chance to apply the pressure. But Henin-Hardenne won four straight points to take the match. Her defense, especially her ability to return backhand winners on Sharapova\'s serve, was the difference in the match. She beats Mauresmo in straights.

Also, Federer had some struggles two nights ago against Davydenko, but won in four sets and has probably weathered the worst of the storm en route to another Grand Slam title.

Pitchie, please enlighten us with an equally comprehensive analysis of our Ms. Pac-Man competition.  At least some people care about that.

Although this thread is totally lame because it is about tennis, I like how it is the comprehensive thread for the entire sport.  I\'m gonna go start this for other sports, I can\'t stand having yearly threads.

Actually, Wolf I think you\'re the only one who really CARES about our Ms. Pac Man competition. But congrats on a score that will be tough to top and rest assured I will be back once I settle into my class at Southern and finish play in my company\'s hold \'em tourney, at which I won one of the 10 regionals for my first career victory, thus earning a spot at the final table.

I agree with you regarding the threads. One thread for each sport. No OFFICIAL Columbus Blue Jackets Thread, or the ONE and ONLY Sid Fernandez Thread, or anything like that. Makes no sense.

But as I just read in another thread, there\'s apparently database issues when the thread gets too big so I guess it\'s fair to seperate. I agree with you in theory though Wolf, as nauseating as that is.
