TREYGOOSE a fairly short review
« on: November 01, 2005, 07:19:50 pm »
So Friday night I got to see Trey for the first time since last April. I had not heard any of his "pop oriented" songs preferring to hear them live first. W/O going into a song by song review let it suffice to say that Trey has been practicing and his new band rips. He also seems to be a HELLUVA lot happier on stage than I have been used to seeing the past couple years.
It was great to hear the Orchestral Guyute over the P.A. preshow and it really got the crowd going. Anyone that thinks Phish is not still on Trey\'s mind has not heard Come As Melody. As far as being poppy? Yep. I like it too. Lyrics that are catchy and FUN to sing, great music to back it and Back-Up singers that just kill! I do not know if it is just my age but I really connect w/ what Trey is doing right now. He is still the master of his Guitar and if he chooses, Shine can be his "Touch of Grey"(in that it will be a hit single which he is not used to and it is catchy and has a chorus which is uniting and uplifting)or if you prefer his "What Would You Say"(seeing as Dave is primarily responsible for this change in direction imo).
Oh and Chris Kuroda seems to have reinvented his lightshow also which was refreshing. He is actually using a set!

Sat. Vegoose
Started w/ Devendra Banhart. Pleasant surprise. This guy and his band bring back a 60\'s folk rock feel good feeling to their show and were a blast. Even invited a random woman up to sing her own song w/ his guitar! Cool guys.
Wandered to Cheese and well just danced my butt off in good hippie fashion. Over to Blackalicious bailing out on the last bit o\' cheese. CROWDED tent so only saw 2 tunes b4 cruising over to get some food and then MULE. Phil was next and w/ an appearance by Warren this was some of the best P&F I have ever heard! Now after the energy flow had been ratcheted up by Phil Beck just did not cut it so Primus it was. Primus SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So so so good. There were tapers search it out! Dave & Friends nxt. Naaah lets bail I got moe. to get to!!!!!!
moe latenite What happened to me? OMG moe. was just that good. Charlie Hitchcock on Meat was really good! The whole show was a highlight. Too much to go into but GTBT>Moth? Dirty Deeds and Devil went down to Ga.? SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRR!

Sun. Vegoose
missed ALO(bummer!) UM was good. Sleater-Kinney not my kind o\' music @ all.
moe. was just killin\' it when we decided to check out Ween. Well after 1/2 a song it was back to moe. Trey up next and though he repeated songs(understandable really) it was a great set and I feel he is really glad that people in general are accepting of the fact that everyone needs to grow and all change is not great but can be good. TOTALLY forgot abt Digable because Trey\'s set was that good to me.
Arcade Fire next. Good altrock but again not to thrilling to me. Panic to end the Festie reminded me of GD shows there so much it was scary, but that good scary ya know? Trey sitting in was killer and funny to see George step up his game after Trey left. haha

Did not even try to go to Phil. Did not feel the need to beg for a ticket.

Halloween Panic. Crystal Method are pure dance bliss!!!!!!!! Method sat in w/ Panic and DBB for the start of 2nd set as they played through the setbreak. Who knew a Dance Party would bust out @ WSP?  SICK!!!!!!!!!! Panic is the shit. You don\'t like it you just don\'t get it. Cool run w/ it.

This event was AWESOME and plan on coming next year!
I wore a balloon hat the entire fest that my friend That Balloon Guy(Mike) made for me. As soon as I get the pics emailed to me you will see this magical hat. and it was a magical hat. Take my word for it! :)

On a sidenote: Spoke w/ Charlie H. in the VIP tent and yes that was his posting on the Particle board and yes Particle KICKED him out and yes I will never see Particle again after meeting this guy and hearing him rip it up the nite b4 w/ moe. He is unsure of what his new project will be as he found out the same day everyone else did and he is kinda shaken  ya\' know?

I\'m listening to it right now.  Wish I could have been at two places at once that night, but the Freakout was more than good enough for me.  I think its a testiment to how cool and laid back that moe. is that they brought out Charlie H. for their set just after getting the axe from Particle.  I saw him sit in at their Halloween \'02 show in Troy and he ripped during Moth.  It definitely must make him feel better being able to play at a show bigger than most Particle shows just weeks after the other guys canned him.

I am of the thought that Particle fucked up. It may have been good for them musically i guess but the WAY they did it is gonna bite them in the ass. He sat in w/ UM, moe. and he told me Phil told him to bring his guitar to Phil\'s latenite to jam if he wanted. Too much solidarity there for it to be good for Particle as I see it.

Sounds like a good time there Leith. I have to say that you are right on with Trey\'s new music. I put the new disc in my car, and I don\'t think it\'s coming out anytime soon. Yes it is very poppy. Yes it is very good. There are definitely a few tunes on there I want to do an instant replay on when they are over, something that I rarely ever do.

Yeah OK guy. I\'ll take Trey Anastasio(Jedi Trey not Sith), Chuck and Al, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, Phil Lesh, Les Claypool ahh Fuck It. The Breakfast is good but not Vegas w/ all that talent in town throwin\' down good. Face it brah If you were @ FF7 you had AN AMAZING TIME with an AMAZING band but it cannot compare to Vegoose in any fashion. Sorry man, but i do believe the ONLY place you will find people that will agree w/ you that FF7 was better than Vegoose is here @ good ol\' .info.

I am usually 100 percent with the claims that there are alot of things going down, but this night was amazing, being a huge starwars fan moment\'s were mind blowing, and the concert was themed in an amazing way...vegoose with a starwars theme would have rocked harder....maybe...

wait...no it wouldnt

aww Leith don\'t be so snappy at him for having an opinion... I think it\'s very sweet that he preferred to be at the Breakfast, even if you found Vegoose to be a monumental experience. You make it sound like his opinion is wrong, but it can\'t be wrong, because it is an opinion...

If you read closer dear you will see that I say I WILL TAKE...... So that is my opinion. I know what The Breakfast is capable of and listening to FF7 now(btw this Doughboy is SICK!) I will say I am really glad I missed it for Vegoose. One show can never compare to all that happened to me this weekend. The people I met ,the bands that played, being in Vegas..... I am just sick of people w/ musical earmuffs, that\'s all.

I never said you shouldn\'t post your opinion. I read your posts quite closely. I was simply saying don\'t snap at him for his.

And anyhow, I am sure he knows that Vegoose was a more musically complete experience than FF7. However, he had a fantastic time and was glad that was where he was, so amen to that. I don\'t think it has much to do with musical earmuffs. I would say he has earmuffs on if he listened to all of your favorite sets from Vegoose and then said the FF was better. I got the impression that he had a great time at the Freakout and wouldn\'t want to have been anywhere else. But, I shouldn\'t be speaking for him, so, enough of this. Don\'t want to put words on mouths or incorrectly analyze situations. :)
