Did anyone else feel "uncomfortable"
« on: October 30, 2005, 10:53:24 am »
at the Webster?  I realize that may be THE gross understatement of the year, but gimme a break.  And of course when I say uncomfortable, I mean did anyone else feel like every which way you turned the staff was getting ready to pounce on you like a cheetah going after wounded prey?

The show was great.  110% as always.  Awesome turnout.  Grassroots have picked up and it shows; and thanks to everyone who contributed.

I just had a hard time really enjoying it.  They gave me a hard time when I was sitting at the stage (I had access, and a valid medical reason for that matter).  The whole experience was kind of disconcerting.
After speaking with you, I\'ve realized how much dumber I\'ve become.

Agreed. The only time I will ever go back there is to see the breakfast. Their staff sucked and they all these weird rules. I\'m surprised you didn\'t have to know the secret handshake. Apparently you had to have a johnson just to get served. That bartender was a bitch.

Thankfully, the show was phenom.

i\'ve always felt that way about the Webster. without a doubt the worst venue in CT, but as long the the breakfast keep playing there I will keep returning. Staff is just flat out rude and always looking to "catch" someone doing something they are not supposed to.

so i got kicked out last night...
first of all..being my second show, i had a GREAT time last night. it was a real fun show. it really showed that they had prepared so much for it beforehand. everything was executed so smoothly. could have sounded even better if it weren\'t at the webster. it sounded so muffled it was like everything kind of meshed together at points.
ok now for my stupid little story that i feel i must vent about...while dancing,  my cell phone dropped from my loose pockets. i couldn\'t see it since it was so dark so i had to use my lighter. a security guy saw me kneeling like i was so he came to check me out thinking that i was lighting something up. and just my luck, my piece fell out too (idiot for brinning it in) which happened just in time for him to see. so he grabbed it before i did and continued to push me several times (with a good amount of force) until i was out the door. this happened right during the encore though and i was able to hear it well enough outside. and it was just a little bullshit batty packed with some beesters. hope everyone had a good time.

I\'ve never seen security hassle anybody for no reason.  Maybe they hassle people for stuff that you can get away with elsewhere, but not for no reason at all.  I\'ve actually never witnessed security being jerks anywhere (though I\'m sure it happens).  They\'re just doing there jobs.  If you want to do something illegal, you\'re taking a risk.

Also, it should be implied that there is no re-entry if you go to your car in a place like the Webster, considering there is a smoking area right outside the door.

i felt fine.  granted i dont use mind altering substances, so i guess thats why.  but i just leveled with the security when i needed to go outside and they were pretty cool with it.  but i agree, if you\'re gonna try to bring illegal things into the venue, you\'re taking the risk.  yes we\'re spoiled with some cool venues that look the other way, but the law is the law, and you can\'t get pissed for people doing their job to cover their own asses.  i think people should be allowed to smoke pot at shows if they want, but they cant and thats just how it is.

No offense YoMa, but you\'re lucky that you were just forced out the door & not locked up... it\'s kids like u who give this band a bad rep.

It seems like this discussion comes up every yr. about the Webster.  Not that I\'m the "queen of safety," or anything, but I agree that these guys are just doing their jobs.  They may be hardasses, but so what?!  They take their jobs seriously and are looking out for everyone who goes there.

since when does the band have a bad rep?  did i miss something?  there\'s being hardassed and there\'s just being dicks.  Somethings they do there are crossing the line.  Like not letting anyone under 21 outside smoking cigs back in w/o warning them well enough.  I had no issues though, I\'m used to it and keep an eye open at all times(all the while doing some of the shadiest things in almost plain view.  Boston security is by far the worst(The Paradise, Avalon, Harper\'s Ferry. etc.), so I\'m used to it.

i blame the beasters.

hahaha. seriously though, dont worry about "giving us a bad name." i strongly doubt the breakfast are trying to ditch their pot smoking fans.

They were nice to me but I know that they were being unreasonable to others...Seemed like they were on power trips or something. The show was awesome either way...as for the band having a bad rep... They are a jam band. They already have a set rep just by saying “jam“… its not yoma’s fault.
