i have been on a smoking hiatus recently. when i do this, i tend to have very vivid dreams. last night, i worked overtime in a different firehouse than usual and was assigned to the rescue company. after a pretty busy evening, i was trying to get some sleep without much luck. so i got up and completed a few fire reports from that earlier action. finally about 230am, i managed to fall asleep, only to be woken up at 300am due to a call from my friend andrea at the moe. show in san francisco during a phil lesh sit in. naturally, this caused some additional tossing and turning. i finally fell into a restless sleep sometime later complete with some wacky dreams. the part that i remember found me back at the firehouse i normally work at. it was very late at night and i was in my room/office with andrea and i went to put some music on the computer. somehow, the music (i think it was the breakfast) came on extremely loud, such that i woke another officer in the next room. (someone who i DON\'T like)after scrambling to turn it down (hitting all the wrong buttons) andrea and i were laughing hysterically at his yelling. i told her she should probably leave and as she walks out, our own leith s. duvall walks in. so we\'re listening to the music and i\'m thinking that it\'s getting close to sunrise. i have this realization that leith, being from the west coast, probably never saw the sun RISE over the ocean. so as i say come on, let\'s go watch the sunrise, i reach out and give him a backhanded tap on his arm/shoulder. just as i my hand makes contact, i was suddenly rudely woken up by the house lights and a loud voice saying SIGNAL 29...SIGNAL 29.....THE ASSIGNMENT FOR THIS FIRE IS......needless to say, it was time to go back to work...and it was 500am....still a bit before sunrise and i was all freaked out by the wake up. now i just hope that i put this in the correct forum because it is kind of breakfast related.

OK well that\'s kinda weird. I have however seen the Sun rise over the Atlantic. I was stationed in Portsmouth Va. for 3 months in Psych School. Spent a few mornings on that craggly ass thing they call Va. Beach.

Just had a conversation about dreams with my boy and his wife. I just finished saying how vivid dreams become when you stop smoking. Kinda ironic to come and find this right away.

Dreams are fun and a map into a world we don\'t understand.

Weird dream there, Oldnewbie.

You can assure yourself this will be moved or merged by morning, and that ain\'t no dream.

I heard an interesting description of how dreams work and why they often seem so crazy. If you picture your mind as a pie cut into segments, each segment representing a different function of the mind (ie memories, desires, etc.). In the center of the pie is a spinning flashlight which represents your conciousness. The flashlight is being turned on and off as your mind floats in and out of sleep, so it\'s constantly changing which section of the mind it\'s paying attention to. At one point it\'s viewing the part of the brain that controls memories, the memories that you have of your regular firehouse, memories that you have of mister ***, at other times it\'s shining on the part of the brain that controls disires, the disire to listen to good music, to be a hospitable friend, etc.

We spent a lot of time in school talking about and analyzing each others dreams. A friend was a Psych major and always came up with the funniest analyisis, he would always twist the dreams to mean that everyone was a closeted homosexual.
