New Years Eve Dates?? [MERGED]

I guess it all comes back to the same thing always.

Fanbase / attendance

If the fanbase stays the same size as it is now roughly then we will be having these debates for a long time.

Its not a done deal yet...but it looks like Toad\'s with Pencilgrass openning.  Maybe a baby band before that.

Breakfast will be lost in the sauce in NYC on NNE......perhaps next year.

What about a New Years RUN...this will also increase size of crowd as people might actually hit the road with the band...3-5 nights in a row culminating in a Toad\'s NYE extravaganza(and Toad\'s gave them til 3 last time they played there for NYE \'03)

12/28 Mexicali Blues Teaneck NJ
12/29 Knitting Factory NYC
12/30 Iron Horse NoHo, MA
12/31 Toad\'s Place

The whole point is that it would be a run...so the band does no shows other than NYE??  With that thinking than the band should only play big cities and on Weekends?  It would make it a special atmosphere people might actually travel to see the band from other places than the Northeast.  Don\'t pretend that other bands the Breakfast size aren\'t doing NY runs.

If the band cannot bring more than 15 people out on a Wed an hour away from their home turf on a New Year\'s run when kids are on break from college than they will never be any bigger than they are right now.  Sorry, that is just fact.  Christ, Timmy Tour gets more than that going just to see him on a Wed every week...even when kids are in school.

1- Timmy tour is mostly local cats anyway.  and those that aren\'t are hardcore kids
2-Run or not people are saving their money for the actual new year

Things need to be spaced and timed properly so they don\'t seperate their own crowd going to different shows

beardslee would be cool...

another band would be ok only if it was a decent band and the sets were alternated. but i\'d rather be selfish and only have the bfast playing.

new haven seems to make the most sense, as its their home turf and has plenty of accomodations for travelers. but i\'d rather them play on a hovercraft above niagra falls, with greg ellis and chris kuroda doing the lights off the falls and mist.

and frankly, i\'d love to see them do some dates with other bands leading up to nye, and nye be a solo gig.

end of daydreaming....

Right, because no one ever does New Year\'s runs..it drives their fans away.  If fans of the Breakfast would skip out on New Year\'s because they have done a show or two that week than the fanbase isn\'t as strong as it is made up to be on this website.  Skip the Wed. night in Jersey if tht would be too much.

12/29 The Knit NYC
12/30 Iron Horse NoHo, MA
12/31 Toad\'s

And my point about TT is just that if he can bring the hardcores out solo playing covers then the badn would get more than that.  I guess I feel that the band should start taking chances with bigger events like this.  It being the time that fans of this music genre really look for shows to go see.  I mean if they need the college crowds than what better time to have a nice multi night run than when they are on break from school?

Whatever, it isn\'t my band or my call so I guess we\'ll wait and see.

one would think, but it\'s been proven time and time again (for whatever reason) that people would rather go see tim play covers on a wednesday night than travel to go see the breakfast or other more creative things like The Big Bang II or even last week\'s Drums n\' Guitar..

if they need the college crowds (which they do), they need to play colleges, during school.. just look at the drop off of the western mass fanbase after 2002..

but hey, turkey tour was a success last year, so who knows..

That is what I was getting at.  That run was put together well with ALOT of competition from others at that time and it went great.  New Year\'s runs are no different.
