IMO, the breakfast either need to headline NYE or co-bill it with someone where they will be able to spread their name farther. No opening for any bands or 1 set bullshit. Step it up and make it happen and others will take notice.

A Co-Bill would only help them if it was a big enough National band. The Max Creek Co-Bill did absolutely nothing for them other than collecting a check( which is good ). It did not get any recognition as a significant show nor did it really help their fanbase grow as the majority of people that saw the show were NE based anyway.
While a local show such as Toad\'s will still have a majority of NE based folk it would help them visibility wise if they could sell it out or bring it near capacity by themselves.

In response to Leith.

If the band cannot say with assurance that they can sell rooms / tickets than they aint gonna get any venue.

NYE is not the night to grow your fanbase. People who make plans for this night generally make plans for a known good time so trying to convince someone to see them for the first time gonna be tough on NYE.

Also if growing the fanbase is the idea then having a show in CT is not the answer either.

If they want to do something they should put a package together or give people incentive other than the show. Like a place to stay onsite or like when DBB played NYE in bridgeport they have transportation arranged to and from the hotel. that kind of stuff. or a killer venue like beardslee or some sort of spectacle. maybe it is already too late but who knows.

By your reasoning this band should not be playing out. For that matter no band @ this level should be able to get in any venue.
But my point is this band can not afford to do such an elaborate NYE party such as you envision. The whole point of NYE shows is to provide the fans w/ a show by their favorite band to ring in the New Year. The only incentive should be that The Breakfast is Playing. I know I tried my damndest every year to make GD NYE just for the fact that it was the Dead. I only point out fanbase growth as younger kids looking for something to do would only become fans if they were afforded an opportunity to see The Breakfast on NYE. Playing a solo NYE show in a comfortable local venue can provide them the time to stretch out and provide a truely legendary performance.

Valid points by all.

I agree with Leith, if it is a co-bill it needs to be a big name. However, I really want to see the Breakfast pull off a NYE by themselve.

As far as venues go, it needs to be a place that they can pack and still make money. It is still early enough for details to be worked out, in the sense of elaborate details I mean. People generally will start making NYE plans in the next few weeks, usually after Halloween.

Again, I talk with the idea of promotion. You can\'t expect people to come to a show of this magnitude when a month to six weeks before you release a date.

Thats not what I was saying at all. Eleborate ? how is playing a good venue which offers some added value elaborate ? I have been to a lot of the NYE shows. I did toads (pretty good turn out and the fans had package at near by hotel) and Tobacco road (was packed because it was after a big show in NYC) with the breakfast. I didnt go when the co-billed with creek becasue creek bores me. So considering a lot of the non-hardcore fans are gonna be looking where to spend $ a lot of these other factors weigh in IMO.

They should rent out the Annex Club in East Haven.  $40 a head with free buffet and kegs.  They\'ll make bank and we can go nuts.  It would be a ser party.

I could see a hotel package being a reasonable enough addition to the NYE show. This can be done w/o the band\'s involvement actually as group rates are easily obtained @ most hotels. I just thought a resort such as you had mentioned would have the band playing @ the same place as the rooms thus needing a good turnout. Believe me I would love for the band to 1 have a fanbase large enough to  ensure a packed venue.  2 to have the NYE show in a venue large enough to garner some attention in more than the local press and 3 to have something special done in relation to the show like a raffle or something like that.

ya I agree with new haven, it is there home, the fans that really want to go are going to anyway, NYC is too much and too big, also I have no desire to see them with another band.

I think they may have been banned from the Annex Club.

For those that may not know, the Annex Club was the site of FF2 in 2000. Some idiot ruined the show by starting a fight and the night ended much earlier than it should have.

If they\'re banned from the annex club, they should play under the assumed name of Tomatotron And The Big Bangers.

Opening/setbreak bands should be FuzeBox, Smokin Boomers, and The Good Time Boys.
