this thread gets me thinking, what makes a great venue. Why are some venue\'s adored and others ignored and at times scorned (ie Lions Den). Why does everyone love porters?
Location: It was kinda a hike to get to, but once you were there, it had that laid back beach town atmosphere.
The Stage: I always hated how the staged (what stage, I mean performance area) seemed too close to the upstairs bar/ stairs. I prefer having easy access to my booze, which always meant that I was walking downstairs for beers, not fun when you love draining beers. Then there\'s the fact that your dealing with a "performance area" instead of a stage, which makes it difficult for those under 6ft that aren\'t in the front row. However, if you did get to the front, the lack of stage made for a band/fan connection like no other venue.
No AC. Steve wasn\'t the only one walking outta this venue looking like a greased pig steppin\' off a treadmill. But I think that added to the place, the heat, the sweat. The place was dirty, boozy, it seemed to loosen people up.
The Lot - probably the reason everyone loved this venue.
