granted, they played some good music, but come on, just because a huge amount of people were really into them doesn\'t mean squat. look at pop music. i just think trey is way overrated. thats all. he\'s good, but he\'s not the god people make him out to be.
please don\'t compare Phish\'s popularity to that of a pop group. There\'s a huge difference between the fact that a shitty band like N\'sync can gross $250 million in ticket sales in one year and the fact that thousands of people with great taste in music dedicate their life to traveling around and seeing a band that they love over and over again. Spacey\'s point about thousands of people traveling to a remote place to see Phish IS symbolic of how great he was, given the fact that the band was also touring all over the country the rest of the year. Pink Floyd could come out of retirement and draw that kind of crowd for a reunion weekend in a remote place, but there are no pop bands that could do that, if they were actively touring the country. Most pop fans only go to see the bands when they come into their home town.
Trey was the face, the creative juices, and driving force of one of the, if not THE, biggest and most popular underground band we have ever seen. Underground meaning that while they\'re hosting the largest NYE concert in the world (Big Cypress), the average Joe has no idea who they are. People love to hate Trey, they love to blame Phish\'s breakup on him, and they love to bash his new music. But, you can\'t deny that the guy is one of the most gifted guitar players that lived. To say he\'s overrated is like saying that Michael Jordan is overrated.
