what do you mean doesn\'t sound right sounds like Trey to me, they just forgot to mention that he was grinding his teeth like a crack head

I\'m just saying, a star like that just wondering the streets. If it was me our you i could understand, but Trey? Suprised he did\'nt get malled by overexcited fans.

I don\'t think Trey is considered a "star" in the eyes of the normal New Yorker.  To you and I and others on this site yes, but how many people do you think actually recognize him in that city?

He is one of the few lead guitarists that I have seen that can make 70,000-100,000 fans drive across the country to a remote location that most people never knew existed. While he may not be the best musician known to man, he and Phish were kings in their own right, IMO.

granted, they played some good music, but come on, just because a huge amount of people were really into them doesn\'t mean squat.  look at pop music.  i just think trey is way overrated.  thats all.  he\'s good, but he\'s not the god people make him out to be.

I agree that to many Trey can seem overrated and that he comes off as a good musician. I believe this is true even more so for musicians who really know what they are playing on stage, and not listening to the music to listen. But, at the same time, isn\'t a God made by the people who choose to follow him and what they perceive him as. I am not a religious man by any means, I have strong feelings about organized religion but I do understand that while I may not agree with the God they worship, I do understand that people will and do live with a God in their lives.

So my point is this, while you may not think Trey is a god, for many others, we view him accordingly.

Is a God not what his followers perceive him as?

So this guy comes into the deli with a phish shirt on and I asked em about it...he just shook his head in disbelief...followed by...I worked with these guys in vermont when i lived up there...the media just rips em apart...then i talked about TB till i was blue in the face...

please don\'t compare Phish\'s popularity to that of a pop group.  There\'s a huge difference between the fact that a shitty band like N\'sync can gross $250 million in ticket sales in one year and the fact that thousands of people with great taste in music dedicate their life to traveling around and seeing a band that they love over and over again.  Spacey\'s point about thousands of people traveling to a remote place to see Phish IS symbolic of how great he was, given the fact that the band was also touring all over the country the rest of the year.  Pink Floyd could come out of retirement and draw that kind of crowd for a reunion weekend in a remote place, but there are no pop bands that could do that, if they were actively touring the country.  Most pop fans only go to see the bands when they come into their home town.

Trey was the face, the creative juices, and driving force of one of the, if not THE, biggest and most popular underground band we have ever seen.  Underground meaning that while they\'re hosting the largest NYE concert in the world (Big Cypress), the average Joe has no idea who they are.  People love to hate Trey, they love to blame Phish\'s breakup on him, and they love to bash his new music.  But, you can\'t deny that the guy is one of the most gifted guitar players that lived.  To say he\'s overrated is like saying that Michael Jordan is overrated.
