We have the strongest military in the world...and there are people running around waving guns.  No that\'s not supose to happen...I don\'t know who the scapgoat here is?  I\'m pretty much confused on this whole thing now...

I think they need some better coordination down in Washington (though it\'s easy for me to say).

Sounds like a certain middle-eastern country I know.  It\'s funny with the army.  They train to kill and avoid being killed.  Maybe they train a little bit on how to keep desperate non-combatants in order, but I have strong doubts as to how good they are at this.  But that\'s their mission in both Iraq and New Orleans.  It\'s been 17 months and Iraq is anything but orderly.  I wonder how New Orleans will turn out.

Again, everyone should donate something.  (Like...now.)  If you would like to have your donation doubled, paypal it to terrapinwolf@hotmail.com and I will send it in via Boston Beer Company, who will match it.

I\'m  going to send it all in on 9/10.  This will give people a chance to give me cash at the Lion\'s Den show on 9/9 if they would like.

This is because almost ALL of our military is stationed in Iraq. All of our resources are thousands of miles away.

What I don\'t understand is why we seemed so unprepared for this. I know that anyone watching the weather for the week leading up to the Hurricane knew that it was going to hit and hit hard, yet we seemed completely shocked when it actually hit.

Seems like there is no communication between Washington, New Orleans/Mississippi and the relief effort.

September 1

When I woke up this morning and saw what has happened to New Orleans, I don\'t really have words to describe the sadness.  My first thought, of course, was concern for the families of all of my friends...Tony Hall\'s wife and children, The Superfly family, the Dumpstaphunk guys and their families, Cyril, the Dirty Dozen guys, Sunpie, Ivan and everyone from the SuperJam…Nicholas Payton-who I met in NY when he played on my CD…Russell Batiste and all of his family, the Nevilles, and all the good people I met at Jazzfest.  I could just go on and on and on…and this led to my second thought - there probably isn\'t a musician alive who isn\'t thinking the same thing right now....because every musician has musical connections to New Orleans; because it\'s not just the birthplace of American music, but over the years it\'s maintained its place as The Source of American music. You want to learn how to groove? Go to New Orleans. I saw Bootsy at Tips once…it was the slowest, loudest music I\'ve ever experienced...or Rebirth at The Maple Leaf in the Eighties....once I was at a party at my friend Rob\'s house and Doc Cheatam showed up.  This is New Orleans...the center of American music. We used to talk in Phish about "the Hose"...well New Orleans is where it was plugged In. New Orleans is in trouble, so music itself is in trouble...anything we can all do now to help is crucial...if you love music, please do whatever you can.

He sounds very honest in that statement. My suggestion, though it may be ridiculed by this board. Reform Phish. Do a brief 4 show run, all profit going to the relief fund. Fans can\'t really get upset at them, in my opinion, if its a charity run for the good of humanity. BUT, seeing as everyone is greedy in their own way I don\'t see this happening. However, a multi-artist relief concert is going to happen, probably sooner or later.

It would be a great excuse to get Phish back together for a 4 day run. I would go.

As would (quick math if outdoor venues say 50,000 a show?) 200,000 others.
200k x say $50 a ticket = $10,000,000 minus whatever costs. Bang, easily biggest donation from an individual group.

supposedly CNN mentioned it.
Said they have come down stream and over where the levee broke.
The sharks also have laser attached to their heads.

I\'d say 2 pretty major reasons that this has gone from the worst storm to hit the US in decades to the most horrific disasters since 9/11:

1. Bush cut the SELA (Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control project) more than 80% over the last 2 years.  This funding was used to sure up the continually sinking levee system in Louisiana. I wonder what he needed that money for?

The fact that Bush has the balls to go on TV yesterday and say that nobody expected the levee\'s to get breeched, when the mayor of NO has been screaming about it for the last 2 years is a bold faced lie.

2. The former director of FEMA is quoted in todays Times saying that the majority of funding that FEMA was receiving dried up in 2004... hmmm, I wonder what that money was used for?

After the Tsunami\'s in SE Asia, FEMA targeted NO as the #1 hot spot of US vulnerability to a natural disaster.  They began to run exercises in how to deal with a large scale hurricaine hitting the gulf coast, but that ended when their budget dried.

You let an incompetent boob drive your car, don\'t be shocked when he wrecks it.

In addition to Bush turning a shoulder on the flood project, I found this an interesting read considering he did such. This has been predicted to happen to the city no less than 3 years ago.

I leave you today and for the weekend with one final article.  Krugman puts things so much clearer than I, maybe thats why he\'s getting paid by the Times...
