Quote from: Wolfman

The looting thing is wierd.  Certainly those who loot jewelry and guns and Heinekens obviously have malicious intent.  I think 95% of looters do have malicious intent.  But some of these people are going into grocery stores and taking food and diapers, things they need to get by.  What would you have them do?  Leave money on the counter that a cashier can pick up later?  Sit patiently outside for 6 weeks until the store opens again?  They\'re already 48 hours in with no food.  I see nothing wrong with taking food, especially from a chain grocery store, and I think the chain should be happy to write off the taken food as a donation to disaster relief.

You have a point there Wolf. I see no harm in looting food from a Chain Grocery Store in a situation as dire as this. Some may say why are these folk even in town in an evacuated city. The thing is they probably were unable to evacuate due to factors like no money so no transportation out, or a family member unable to be moved etc... My point is survival is priority #1 and food seems to be one thing they can grab control over by looting as shelter is probably a bit harder to come by in 12 ft standing water everywhere. Hopefully the law will look the other way in these instances.
Worrying is like praying for something you don't want.

I heard that police are allowing the looters to take food items along with clothes and shoes that fit.  I\'m sure Wal-Mart is a profitable enough organization and will survive!

Agreed. This is a fucking crisis down there. If chain companies begin to complain, they should be put down. Just shows how inhuman they are. Most of these companies will be given tax exemptions, or given right offs. Most of them are insured against this kind of damage. If anyone has enough money it is Sam Walton.

Taking food, water, needed items, is ok in this situation... it\'s the ones that are taking non-essential items that I have a problem with.

:hscratch: what about it? Though I was only 5ish I dont remember it being all that destructive, my house and garage were still standing, no significant trees came down. Which is saying alot since my garage has been on its last leg for about 40 years. My father prays a good severe thunderstorm storm will take it down every time there is a chance. Anyway, Gloria was 19 years ago, we haven\'t been hit with a significant \'cane since. we are long overdue

I agree, it\'s the people who are robbing other people in their homes at gunpoint that is  my issue. I feel each and every one of these criminals should be drowned in the flood waters.

Well if Katrina doesn\'t have you completely depressed and you don\'t think you can hate G.W.B. any more, don\'t read the front article on this website:

The Mayor of New Orleans is fearinf thousands dead. They also are saying that if people are dead in the water and they can not reverse the flood water, that they waters are now a haven for disease to spread. With the sun beating down all day, it will surely create a disgusting medical problem.

Does anyone know anything about how bad Mississippi has gotten it? I heard that a few towns have been lost completely, mostly the ones in the direct hurricane path.

I\'m psyched to go to Houston this week.  Maybe I\'ll go hang out at the Astrodom and get shot by some pissed off homeless drug addict!!  They had to temporarily stop the busing of refugee\'s because of gun fire.

It appears now that the rescue effort in No\'leans has been called off due to people shooting at rescuers and "acting in a violent manner".  unreal....if thats the case...let those fucking animals die down there.....

People are stupid. It is sad because there are probably some people who really need help and won\'t be able to get it because some wiseasses are shooting at rescuers. I mean really, think about, why would you shoot someone coming to help you? I say let them live in the disaster they all knew New Orleans was capable of being, may be a few days in filth will make them smarten up.
