One of my professors sent me a link to a web blog hosted by someone that is in NO, it has some pretty crazy stuff on it, including eyewitness accounts about what is going on.  The link is http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/ if anyone is interested.

Also, I know most people are donating to help the people, but the animals need help, too!  I dontated some to both.  A lot of people that were able to get there pets out of the city were not allowed to take them with them to the shelters they were going to so they had to drop them off at animal shelters that were already overloaded and filled to capacity.  Plus, people are going around and rescuing people, but they won\'t let them take their pets.  I donated to the NSAL, they are using the money to rescue animals and feed those that are in overcroweded shelters.  Here is the link: http://www.nsalamerica.org/

Good article.

If Brown from FEMA doesn\'t fired or someone loses their job over this tragic lack of response and ignorance then there is something definitely wrong in this administration. "Michael Brown, the blithering idiot in charge of FEMA - a job he trained for by running something called the International Arabian Horse Association", like many in this administration, he is underqualified for this job. Training horses=Competent for Emergency Disasters

I personally think that this is enough from this lame-duck president and that we as a country should get back our self respect and impeach this idiot and his following of incompetent morans. We as American people have let the Federal government boss us around to long and delplete our sense of pride and honor. We have become to self infatuated with gaining financial success, driving a BMW or making sure no one touches are things. We  have forgot that the real reason why we live. It isn\'t to make millions and snub your nose at those around you who don\'t. It is about living in harmony with earth and your fellow man. If I have learned anything from this presidents administration, it is how blind we have become and how out of touch we are with the world and life.

I\'m glad to start seeing the media fire questions of doubt at these people, all except for Fox. If we lose the respect of the world, then we are in dire straits. Living in a powerful modern day empire, we all should know remember that even Rome eventually fell.

These people are civil servants but they act more like a ruling elite.  A government "by the people, for the people" is not how I would describe this administration.

in the constitution it says that if we believe the government is not doing what it was put in place to do, it is not only our right, but our duty to revolt and put a new government in place.

President Bush is really on top of all this.  Thank GOD we this country re-elected such a strong president.  I just hope it didn\'t ruin his vacation plans too much...with all he\'s done for the economy/world outlook of US/price of oil(and other means of energy/families of the service men killed in his Daddy\'s war...he really needed one.

this thread was dropping too low, so I\'m bumping it w/ what else... more NY times content:

"the undermining of FEMA began as soon as President Bush took office. Instead of choosing a professional with expertise in responses to disaster to head the agency, Mr. Bush appointed Joseph Allbaugh, a close political confidant. Mr. Allbaugh quickly began trying to scale back some of FEMA\'s preparedness programs.

You might have expected the administration to reconsider its hostility to emergency preparedness after 9/11 - after all, emergency management is as important in the aftermath of a terrorist attack as it is following a natural disaster. As many people have noticed, the failed response to Katrina shows that we are less ready to cope with a terrorist attack today than we were four years ago.

But the downgrading of FEMA continued, with the appointment of Michael Brown as Mr. Allbaugh\'s successor.

Mr. Brown had no obvious qualifications, other than having been Mr. Allbaugh\'s college roommate. But Mr. Brown was made deputy director of FEMA; The Boston Herald reports that he was forced out of his previous job, overseeing horse shows. And when Mr. Allbaugh left, Mr. Brown became the agency\'s director. The raw cronyism of that appointment showed the contempt the administration felt for the agency; one can only imagine the effects on staff morale."

I\'m officially addicted to OP/ED writer Paul Krugman

This is very true. However, people are to materialistic these days. If it doesn\'t affect them know, then why worry. A lot in this country has to change. First, the American people need to get of their asses and take back what is rightfully ours, this country.

I understand that now there is another problem with people who are refusing to leave the city... the mayor was (evidently) mis-quoted earlier when it was reported that he was going to cut off food / water / supplies from those who refuse to leave.... civil rights groups freaked out... IMO, if you do not take the free ride you are being offered out of the city, you SHOULD be left to fend for yourself... cut off... how fucking stupid do you have to be to stay there???

And Kanye West might be the biggest idiot I\'ve ever heard speak.
