Fever Pitch

No this thread is not about Chris Pitchy getting the flu....

I went to see this movie yesterday.  I felt that Jimmy Fallon owed us one for leaving SNL and attempting yet another halfass SNL/alum movie carear. What really made me even want to see this movie was that the Farrelly Bros directed it and, of course, Drew Barrymore.  Especially just to see her take a line drive foul ball to the dome.

This is a well told modern day tale of a man with a lifelong passion and devotion to the Red Sox who falls in love with a a beautiful, successful, carrear driven woman.  What made this movie so instantly enjoyable is that Boston, circa Oct. 2003 through Oct 2004, is merely the backdrop for this story to be told.

The Farrelly Bros. did an amazing job of making a baseball movie which is so rooted in such an intense rivalry, but not shoving anything too trite and obvious down the viewers throat.  They also were able to make it funny outside of the whole Boston/Yankee curse breaking season.  And they made a huge leap from hilarious off color and oft disgusting humor and gags to more subtle and dialogue driven laughs.

Jimmy Fallon was great.  He didn\'t just play a carbon copy of his SNL beantown character.  Which are great sketches, but it just wouldnt have worked for this movie.  There is a classic "rock bottom" scene involving Fallon, buffalo wings, and "the buckner tape".  Drew Barrymore was just perfect.  Her expressions and timing just keeps getting better with every movie she does.  And her and Fallon\'s chemestry was classic and resulted in a funny and believeable picture of "12 mos in the life of a relationship".

After seeing the movie, I found out that it is based on a novel set in the story of a diehard soccer fan.....  Unfortunately I am not a big reader, nor do I give two craps about soccer, but I bet the book is a good read as well...

Fever Pitch, a definate must see for people who like to go to see a movie in a theater and laugh for the entire film.

The guy that wrote the book that the movie was based on is Nick Hornby.  The movies About A Boy (still never saw that one) and High Fidelity (one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time) are based on his books.  If you like his movies, I HIGHLY recommend reading some of his work.  He\'s a great writer, and very underrated, imo.  Glad to see that Fever Pitch is a quality movie.  I was hoping that the combination Farrelly Bros. + Nick Hornby screenplay wouldn\'t disappoint.  I\'m going to have to check it one out sometime this week.

Fever Pitch wasnt bad, definitely didnt think Fallon was great though. he actually reminded me of a kid who was stoned all the time and couldnt handle social situations for the most part. but it wasnt bad overall, started slow and got better.

hey gencs, did you catch the Miguel Tejada blunder when they showed the foul ball clip on Sports Center? it was a fat white dude, number 44, so far from tejada that i feel like they did it on purpose. anyways, best part of the movie was definitely the wings/buckner tape, hilarious. and how fine is that chick who was \'the bitch\' of the girlfriends, i wanna buy her workout tape!

Well w/ the season wrapping up the way it is. I broke down and rented this movie. No matter how much I hate the Redsox, I really enjoyed how the movie portrayed the absolute love Boston has for them. Drew Barrymore just gets cuter and cuter.  Fun rental for sure.
