Trying to get PB into the press in my area
« on: September 03, 2004, 06:11:56 pm »
I have recently been in contact with a guy I went to high school with that writes for a southeastern Mass. newspaper.  He generally covers the Red Sox but has recently been chronicling Phish\'s final days.  I spoke with him at a party about sampling some Breakfast and he\'s interested.  Everytime I try to get someone into the band I have the dilemma of attempting to pick the best representation of their music to hook the guy/gal.  I believe that he will cover the Breakfast in future articles if I can get him addicted.  More press can only be good and the band deserves it.

So I am soliciting your help in deciding which samples to provide the newspaper guy.  I would list the shows I have and take an opinion poll but I am at work and don\'t have all the dates memorized.  Basically, there are lots of shows at places like Toad\'s Place so the dates are important (like you all don\'t know that).

List some of the best shows and I\'ll tell you if I have them.  I will post my collection of shows later when I have the cds and tapes in front of me.

02/12/2004 - Tribeca Rock Club.  It\'s a great set and it\'s not overwhelmingly long (90 minutes I think) for a new fan.
Go see your Breakfast, there are starving Leiths in California

Should be something recent for sure as they are a TOTALLY different band than 3 years ago. They have become one hell of a cohesive unit.

I have been listening to it almost nonstop.....it is definatly a great example of the breakfast as a "cohesive unit".......

however there is a "fuck phish" chant by the kids in the crowd....but timmy makes up for that with a quick statement and at least one tease that I have picked out.......Simple tease (one quick line) in MayFly.......

I don\'t know maybe the "fuck phish" chant will give the guy some material to work with. Something along the lines of Phish is done but there is a  growing contigent of fans that would rather have Breakfast etc.

I finally burned the disks for the guy I know who writes for a local Southcoast, MA newspaper.   I told him that he has to write an article(s) about the band if he falls in love with them.

I think I am going to try contacting some Bay Area newspapers when I set up shop out there.  Breakfast deserves more press so we should try to get their music into the hands of those who have the ability to share their writing with the public.

Columnists often leave an email address at the end of their story/opinion so this provides us with the opportunity to pitch our band to them.  My goal is to get the Breakfast worked into a story in the S.F. Chronicle if possible.

I agree... this is one of the best show in recent memory... I have distributed it around here to some newbies as well.  Superfly is the best version I have heard yet.... both sets totally rip.  The only bad thing I have heard about it from people is concerning the vocals in Acid Queen... they do sound a bit strained at times... lol
