Oh and fuck Lars Fucking Ulrich right in his stupid greedy fucking ear.

I agree.
Fuck the labels. They have become dinosaurs that are not smart enough to be extinct. Please support your local bands and local songwriters (who make a living from publishing rights).

It might be lossless, but there is no way thats its FLAC.  If this is true, then apple is just as bad as the people downloading music illegally. FLAC is an open source Free Lossless Audio Codec, and profitting off of FLAC would be illegal.

Whoops. My bad, it is not based on FLAC. Apple won\'t disclose anything about the code.
Side note:  I was under the impression that open source software could be incorporated into a commercial product as long as it was altered to a certain degree (Red Hat Linux, and the other flavors comes to mind). Can anyone explain?

You\'re right. They were selling the manual and the cd-roms, not really the program.

yea, I knew this was comming.

Call me hipocritcal if you want, but if I am given something that I actually use / like the band, I will still go out and purchase it. The easy way out would be to just use the pirated stuff indefinetly.  I could have had everything zappa ever did years ago, but as of now I have barely half the collection - but I\'ve purchased them, and I will continue to because I like the band(s) and I want to support them/him.

Thanks for the other torrent sites listed above - added to the bookmarks for future reference. As for music,  I used to get lots of stuff from a Russian site called grammy.ru, but they have undergone a revamp and have more mainstream stuff these days.

I think pirated music and pirated software are two different things. I do download the odd album/few tracks by bands I don\'t know as a way of finding out what they are like, especially given the price of CDs in the UK. Also for some of the rarer stuff out there, it is often the only way to get it - especially obscure 60s groups.

However, I have absolutely no qualms whatsoever about using copied Microsoft/JASC/Adobe etc software - they make billions out of us all every year and the price of their software is exorbitant. I don\'t mind using slightly older software as long as it does the job. Unfortunately dear Mr Gates is going to continue to get richer just as long as people are daft enough to buy his software.

I run Linux on my computer only because I detest Microsoft so much. I have even resisted the XBOX and that kills me but FUCK Bill Gates. I mean when the software needs to be fixed and they still release it. This is ridiculous. As far as dl music. I have never been a studio album guy xcept in rare cases . I much prefer live versions and these are usually not put out by the bands thus I have no problems. I think I agree that the companies are fucked but the artists sign w/ these people and contribute to the whole vicious circle so..... I am for the revamping of the industry and it seems to be happening as cd prices are dropping and more and more bands are distributing on the internet. It is time that smaller companies w/ the Artists in mind come to the fore and thus I am buying Real Radio a studio album though I admit I probably would buy it even from Microsoft.
Worrying is like praying for something you don't want.
