Question: can any of you (Pitch) think of any postseason games that were as long as these last two? Wondering if any kind of record was made.

I did stay up last night. Sat in a cigar shop (gross) and watched the whole thing. Night before was a different story. I was disheartened and was pretty sure the outcome was going to be unpleasant. Plus, I had an upset stomach. So, shut up you!

Each of these last two games are the longest by minutes (5:02 Sunday and 5:49 yesterday) in postseason history. The longest game by innings in postseason history was when the Mets beat the Astros 7-6 in 16 innings in Game 6 of the 1986 NLCS. Oddly, that game was only 4:42.

Also the Game 3 debacle from Saturday was the longest nine-inning postseason game by minutes in history at (who knew?) 4:20.

Ok, haven\'t posted in quite some time, but I gotta say this is one hell of a series.  I\'m a diehard sox fan, and if Schilling pitches good tonight, they will win the series.  I know it\'s almost impossible to go into yankee stadium and beat the yanks two games in a row (with that rediculious lineup they have batting out of their asses this postseason), but the sox have all the momentium on their side.  They have nothing to lose tonight, all the pressure is on the yankees (you could tell they knew that if you saw Jeter\'s face after that game last night).  Just wanted to get that out their......GO SOX!!!

Francona says Wakefield is the favorite to start Game 7. Tough call. We\'ve seen him and Arroyo both look unhittable and both look terrible. Same with Lowe. First things first...

one of the more ludicrous posts yet. yeah that jeter.....he\'s all about feeling the pressure. been a choker his whole career. i think your mixing him up with that other shortstop you used to have. the one who turned down that 17 million a year that the sox offered just 6 months ago.(what were they thinking?)(what was he thinking?)

nothing to lose.....that town will crucify whomever causes them to lose. wakefield caught a break last year but let him give it up this year and see what happens. after coming back like they did (everyone....even yankee fans have been impressed by this) they have sucked you all back in yet again. maybe your right...if you
never win....you have nothing to lose   ;)

this is shit. i need SLEEP!!!!

tony clark at the plate for the last out of the game. yay. guy\'s been nothing but an automatic out since coming in for olerud. his one contribution meant nothing, because it bounced into the stands. i strongly believe that if olerud didn\'t get hurt, this series would be over.

yes, i\'m nervous.

tell me about it, barley got 2 hours sleep last night by the time the game ended. luckily the last couple games were on my weekend and I was actually able to stay up for them. looking forward to another nap this afternoon followed by another sleepless night...

I\'m not even close to the level fan that drew or dave are, but you can\'t help getting sucked into this series! (my job might have something to do with it also).

But seriously, a few thoughts...

Lowe on two days rest? What about Wakefield? He can be brutal, but is untouchable on his best day. I guess they don\'t want to start Mirabelli over Varitek to accomdate such, or don\'t want three passed balls an inning with Varitek in there. Still, Wakefield was great in Game 5 and has a rubber arm so rest is not a huge factor.

I originally thought Arroyo would be the starter, but the relief outings reduce him to a few innings tonight at best. They\'ll probably pitch all three at some point so it might not matter, but Lowe wasn\'t even going to start at all until Game 3 got rained out and now he\'s starting the pivotal game on half rest. It doesn\'t make sense. But then again, neither do many of Francona\'s moves and most work out.

I would not start Lowe under any circumstance tonight with his lifetime ERA versus the Yanks and his lack of rest. He\'ll probably try to go 5, then to Wakefield and/or Arroyo for a few, then the Embree/Timlin combo (which is finally rested), then Foulke (who is anything but rested). Lowe is a good pitcher to bring in when leading or trailing by a run or two and the pressure slightly lessened. But to start him off potentially at 0-0 with it all on the line: I don\'t agree. Out of the three pitchers in question, Arroyo has the best stuff and that\'s who I would go with even if he could only go a few. And if he couldn\'t go at all, I\'d start Wakefield and Mirabelli.

Also for the record, I think Kevin Brown is the right choice for the Yanks. He\'s hurt and he\'s emotional, but he\'s won a World Series and has pitched big games. Vazquez and El Duque waiting in the wings.

Also for the record, I think Tony Clark was the right choice. The only other option was Lofton and he likely wasn\'t going to win the game on one swing, which Clark could have (or he could have walked if he avoided Foulke\'s only successful pitch: the outside fastball).

Also for the record, I think Houston manager Phil Garner is making the right move by throwing Pete Munro and not Clemens on short rest. I\'m never a fan of throwing on short rest when leading in the series. This way, they either have Clemens-Oswalt for Games 1 and 2 of the World Series if they win today or have Clemens-Oswalt available for Game 7 if they lose.

Anyway, so what this all means is seven shutout innings from Lowe tonight, Brown gets bombed, Kenny Lofton hits for the cycle, and Munro tears his rotator cuff during pregame warmups. I got this shit  down to a science and I be blinding y\'all with such.

The Payoff Pitch

Yanks 7, Red Sox 6

I keep hearing all this "when he\'s on he\'s on" and "he either can\'t throw or is untouchable." pfft, he\'s been throwing meatballs all year. I am uncomfortable every time he is on the mound. He\'ll blow it tonight.

Spoken like a true Sox fan

So you say Arroyo or Lowe? Or Pedro on one days rest?
