The 440 worked great. As far as I can tell I am back to making error free recordings (provided I keep my beer intake down :) ) I only used it for 2 track stereo. It will be interesting to do a multi-track 24/48 recording with it sometime. Perhaps a really nice matrix or something.

I didn\'t tape Rezi. We got there just as they were finishing up.

We decided to run the AKG with no roll off at all. Generally we have the -10db pad set. I think it made the Bass very round and full. It was pretty loud / bass heavy in the room so I think you get a very honest representation of how the show sounded. Jordans vocals are very hard to hear early on and it doesn\'t get much better but that was true live. All in all I am very happy with the recording. There is this really cool moment during Beef Barley when the band is hitting on all cylinders and Rons bass line is thumping and Tim is feeding off of it. Really cool, especially for beef barley.

I really like the D/A from the VX440. I purchased a set of Canare Star Quad XLR to RCA to run directly from the lappy to the amp. It just makes everything sound very smooth

I was under the impression that the vx4420 could only record 2 simultaneous tracks.  let me know if you can record on the mic, line and spdif at the same time.  I would be very interested in that

Thanks for recording and getting out the show!

ah crap. I have to admit. Kim has been correcting me for a while but I guess I f\'d up. Sorry. breakfast it is. I guess I thought brkfst was correct. I should have checked. It won\'t happen again :)

Matt Vallo

I have the VX 440 which is the 4 channel version of  the same card Peck has. I remember reading that there may be a firmware upgrade that allows analog and digital inputs to be used simultaneously but currently I believe it would all have to be done on either the analog or digital ends.

So I would feed the board source on channels 3 and 4. Channels 1 and 2 would be the mics. Just need to decide on a mutitrack software that I like.

you should try vegas 5. I have been working with it all year because it does multitrack video as well as audio and i like it a lot. It supports 24 bit recording, 5.1 surround mixing, and supports all of my extra pro tools plugins.

Thanks for the heads up. I will look in to it.

I think it used to be part of the Sonic Foundry suite of programs before Sony bought them. I was using SF 6.0 so the interfaces may be very similar

I think vegas 5 is bundled with dvd architect 2 . Its pretty cool for making dvd music compilations and other interesting  video and audio projects.

Couldn\'t agree more - am listening to the Tribal-Eschers sandwich now. Ron\'s bass is well up there and sounds amazing with headphones on - he was driving Doughboy along and the Beef Barley truly is sick!!

Is it me or is Vera St. changed? Seems to me now Tim sings through while back up Vera St.\'s sung by the other guys. Really like it alot better this way.
