Figured I\'d start the ball rolling.  It\'s 9:00am on opening day, and we\'re already 1/2 game ahead of the Yankees.  I can feel it... our year.

The King finally steps up to the plate....

I have the feeling this year too. Last year I did not. Every game we won in the series was accompanied by a huge feeling of amazement. Not this year though. This year we are expecting it!

Duane is right about one thing though: march, april and may are not september and october....

Are u all high? Drew is right on the ball. The WHOLE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BASEBALL and other sports is THE JOURNEY. From game 1 through game 162, the ups and downs, the injuries, the speculations. It\'s ALL A PART OF BASEBALL. If you can not get into the season from the get go why bother? I have heard all of the arguments abt how most of the season does not count etc. etc. and  it always comes down to the casual fan does not have the perserverence  or stamina to support a Baseball team from start to finish.
You go Drew though The Angels are gonna run through yo\' Red Sox ;)

I totally agree. I wait all year for baseball season! I even go to spring training games. MAN, I love baseball.
Living here in Boston I must admit I have become a Red Sox fan... Though I do root for the Angels as well, but my heart is with the Padres, even though they suck!

Giavanna since I moved to SD in \'90 I have always continued to support my hometeam Angels(born in OC). After the Fire Sale in \'94 I became a Padre fan mainly due to my belief that unless the team is in Direct conflict w/ your hometeam you root for the team in the city you live in.
I have fallen in love w/ the Padres and am a major supporter of this team. Have you been to Petco ? IT IS AWESOME!!!!! The team they have built this year DOES NOT SUCK. DO NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE THIS TEAM WIN ITS DIVISION. Go PADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In terms of the post season, you\'re right.  But in terms of the regular season, a win is still a win and a loss is still a loss.  While I agree with the whole philosophy of "finishing strong" on your way into the playoffs (see the 2000 - 2003 LA Lakers for how NOT to do this... but that\'s another thread), the first 20 games don\'t count any less than the last 20.

It\'s easy to have a sense of history when you\'ve lived through so much of it.  The last time Duane was at Yankee Stadium, everybody starting chanting \'1918\' and he had a flashback to his high school graduation.

By the way, my guess is this thread will be 200 pages by September... especially if we have enough semi-off-topic posts like this one.

A win or a loss in April counts the same as one in September.

Now Leith, I was not saying it\'s not about "the journey," and I was certainly not saying I\'m not "getting into the season" yet. Just the opposite. All I was saying by agreeing with Duane on that one moot point is that you can\'t count your chickens... No reason to not be fuckin excited about those chickens, I just won\'t start counting em yet.

When you do start counting, make sure that you\'re wearing sandals.  You\'ll be able to count twice as high.

Glad to hear the Pads aren\'t gonna suck. I haven\'t been able to pay too much attention. I\'m gettin ready to move and I\'ve already cancelled my paper and shut off the cable. Plus I\'m at school almost twelve hours everyday... Man I can\'t wait to get outta here, but that\'s for another thread...
