Yeah I guess you\'re right. But in that case, it couldn\'t be a 50 person list. There\'s just no way. You\'d need 100 slots at least. I mean, Miles, \'trane, Sonny Rollins, Corea, Monk, Jimmy Smith, Bird, Clarke, Louis Arm, Ella.... it would get HUGE if you had every type of music artist!

If that\'s the explanation for not including Miles Davis then where do Public Enemy and Run-DMC fit in?

Joc,  I was fortunate enough to catch Jimmy Smith at the Blue Note a couple of years ago.  It was him and Lou Donaldson on a double bill.....He is truly "The Master"

Oh yeah... I didn\'t even notice them.. Just kind of scanned the list. Saw a few that I found rather dismaying and stopped paying attention...

*drooooool*... you lucky bastard. Is he still around and playing? There are few people I would like to see more.

Jimmy Smith Live at Club Baby Grand- a must have. It\'s on Blue Note I believe. One of my all-time favorite versions of Sweet Georgia Brown.

My favorite Jimmy Smith albums are Unfinished Business and Groove Drops 3+1.

As far as Rolling Stone goes, I don\'t get too fired up over these lists.  They\'re a great gimmic for selling magazines, not some "official" list that a lot of people think it is.  Fame always wins out over musicianship too, because famous musicians, again, sell magazines, therefore Rolling Stone likes them better.  As long as you\'ve got some huge list and a "special issue" ribbon on the cover, you\'re gonna sell more mags, so I don\'t put any stock in the lists.

Actually, what I do get out of them though, is discovering some good music lost in the middle of the lists.  Like with the 500 best albums list a few months ago, I just used #300-500 as a guide to check out some groups I had never really considered before.  That worked well.

Wot, no Dead???? :(

Also I have to concur with any posts disagreeing with Cobain\'s position. He wouldn\'t have even made the top 100 if he hadn\'t done us all a favour with a 12 bore. Greater than the doors, Who or janis?? Nowhere even close!!!

Also jimi is way above the Stones

Gray my magazine is in the works.... I wish I had some capital to start it up with though.  I already have some pretty sick interviews lined up and some decent writers on board, though I\'m always looking for new ones, so if anyone wants to be published shoot me a PM and we\'ll work out the details:)
