Okay, so in the basement of Thornes Marketplace, where the old Dynamite Records location used to be, there is now a large open space called the "Dynamite Space".
Concerts are held there from time to time, along with various exhibits and artistic showings.
Anyway, they request a "donation of $10-$15 an hour to use the space"... wtf?!
Here is the link for some info on the Space:
http://commonwealthcenter.org/as you can see it is a rather large room.
I filled out an application basically asking about some details about using the space, if they can provide PA, if we can BYOB, stuff like that. And asking about NYE availability as well.
Either way, we all know Iron Horse sucks. And Northampton area Breakfast/Kung-Fu turnout is certainly not dependent on IHEG\'s weak advertising efforts. This is largely a grassroots / word-of-mouth / word-of-Facebook fanbase, and actually I bet a lot of people would be interested in avoiding the Iron Horse\'s bullshit anyway.
Stay tuned. I said I\'m interested in possibly hosting one or two bands on NYE, depending on what they tell me in their response, and also depending if Breakfast and or Kung Fu is even interested in this, or has other plans. This, I do not know, and haven\'t asked yet. But if all seems good with Dynamite Space, I shall find that out.
peace
Also, if this pans out, according to current tour schedules, this would be my 100th show
Here is their facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Commonwealth-Center-for-Change/29913688449Apparently they are having a Dub and Techno show tomorrow night. I don\'t see why hosting whatever band I want with a reasonably sized fanbase would be a problem at all. Even if BYOB is a no-no, there are tons of bars within a 5 minute walk. Also, flasks are a good invention, I reckon.
I\'d like to see TPalms solo acoustic make it up to Northampton as well, this might be an easy spot with low overhead for such a thing. I can personally handle booking / ticket sales / wristbands / getting cool lights set up / finding a PA if need be, most likely. Well, I have some friends, too
I may invite a local jam band with a good following, such as "The Big Sway" or, possibly "The Whipjacks", or both, depending how much time we can fill, and also depending if Bfast and/or Kung Fu even wants to do this.
With such low overhead and $15 tickets, I\'m pretty sure they will be paid more or less the going rate. Sure would be a great thing for Northampton and probably most Breakfast fans who come out here for shows, especially if it means NYE gets booked one way or another.
