this show was definitely the best ive seen them play in the last few months for sure, and one of my favorites that ive seen.  i was a little late coming back from the set break but i thought there was definitely something else played before mooboo\'s and i didnt realize it was inverted at all...but i could have just been drunk and didnt notice.  eppy 1 was awesome.  the existential funk was the best ive heard/seen so far.  the second set was insane...totally spacey and on point.  mooboos was really great, lit (which im usually not a big fan of) was really hitting the spot, gladys was on par, and scheme was 100x better than the one a few months ago at the field and definitely showcased each instrument really well.  all in all i was really looking forward to this show (after last week felt like just a taste) and had an idea that it was gonna be a ser rager, which it absolutely was.

as far as taping is concerned, my guess is it wasnt taped :(.  at least there was nothing there to suggest that it might be...

there was a pair of mikes mounted on the ceiling about 30 feet from the stage, with wires running towards the soundboard area, but i don\'t know what (if anything) was connected there..............

please, lie to me if necessary, but tell me it was taped

First set was partly reminiscent to the setlist of Hartford\'s 11-25-09 show. Existential Funk keeps getting better and better. Venue was packed for the first set. For the second set the crowd had decreased in half, but all attendees were raging to the music. The jams in the second set sounded great and Johnny Upstate\'s lighting enhanced the intensity of the jams as well as the intensity of the crowd. Highlight for me was Mooboo\'s > Lit. I felt a bit out of place when the band started the second set with "End of the line my ship has sunk. Bing Bang Bink Bonk Clink Clank Clunk", but soon afterwards I was on cloud nine. Show was taped, but there might be a taping policy change so stay tuned for that if that is the case. As far as Escher\'s 3 goes, we might be hearing it again around the same time period that Escher\'s 5 debuts its retahdedness. That is just my assumption.

F*ck, of all the shows to miss!!!

Just by the looks of it, this seems like show of the year, to me. I mean, c\'mon man! Hope these tapes appear sooner than later.

That setlist is so thick and lysergic. Damn!
Are you ser?

I didn\'t make the show. Ken and were going to make the drive and ken backed out last minute. I wasn\'t too excited about driving thought NYC in Friday rush hour traffic, anyhow.  you guys should get the name/email of the taper(s).  not all tapers know know to transfer a show and upload to archive.  Many tapers record for personal use, they have no obligation to make it public. hope fully this one will surface in a few days.  The set list looks great and the band has been playing very well as of late.

Although some people are having problems with their zoom, I have used it more that 15 shows and have not had a single problem.
I recommend something like this deal:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Zoom-H4n-H4-n-Recorder-4-Track-Mobile-TRIPOD-16GB-SD_W0QQitemZ220513244157QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item33579d13fd
make sure to buy a zoom approved 16gb card and format it using the the zoom format function.
also, make sure to hit the rec button twice to record, Pressing the record button once just starts the level meters. The second time pressed, actually starts the recording.  I have done this once and did not record part of a set.

BTW, Tim Palmieri has one of these recorders, so if there are no tapers, ask Tim if he can record the show.

I was just reading some reviews on the H4n, and a major complaint was distortion when connecting to a board or mixer. He called it a \'line level signal,\' but I don\'t know what that means exactly. Maybe that just means the signal sent from the board to the recorder? But I guess this person kept hearing distortion in his recording when he connected to the board. Matt, have you noticed this at all? You have done a few matrices with it and I don\'t think I\'ve noticed any distortion. I like the affordability of the Zoom and all of its functions, but I don\'t like the sound of this. Sounds like you are pretty pleased with it though.  I never want to see a show go unrecorded!

I have a Zoom, too.  Matt bought an attenuator on eBay to bring the line-level signal down to something the H4n can handle.  I have also gone straight from a soundboard feed (10/31 FF11) with the recording level turned way down--to 0.6 out of 100.

The H4n is expecting a microphone-level signal which is a lot less that what you\'d get coming out of a line-level output.

My H4n works fine.  It has a quirky behavior regarding the SD card.  It does not see the card ever other time I restart the recorder.  Not sure why.  It\'s a Toshiba card which is on their approved list.  Could still be a bad card, but because it\'s so consistent (and I haven\'t lost any data [fingers crossed]) I suspect it may just be a firmware bug.  I should look on their website for a new version.

HTH,

George
