Barbar totally sucks at guitar... it amazes me how many wrong notes a guy can hit when he almost never deviates from a boxed-in major pentatonic scale... it all sounds so the same and lazy. I mean even Timmy and Trey hit accidental notes (Trey moreso hehe) but they\'ve developed the skill to adapt on the fly and turn an accident into something unique and cool. Barbar lets those sour notes hang and IMO its way amateur.
Maybe some blues / jazz lessons? LOL people like it, they make bank, so whatever. The fact is Tim or Trey put more effort into a single song than Barbar puts into a whole show though.
Just my take as a guitar player. Love to see some guitar duals or other guitarist sit ins at a Biscuits show..... let\'s get Scofield up there for a minute to turn some worlds upside down
Just my commentary from having watched the video Zuke posted in the other thread
getting...angrier...by the...second....
luckily, i was able to catch a bunch of \'03-\'04 phish shows, so i stopped worrying about "correct" notes a long time ago. and i\'m not sure if it\'s the support he has or if it\'s him , but the biscuits/barber jam better on a more consistent basis than any other band i\'ve ever seen. no disrespect to the breakfast or phish, but the creativity of the biscuits is on a different level right now. and for the record i\'m only comparing present-day playing, not \'99 biscuits, or mid-90\'s phish, or the peak of the breakfast (whenever that was). tuna, i hope you\'re around this weekend to witness some of this. and if not, oh well...i\'m not in the business of trying to convince people of the biscuits\' greatness (i leave that to nicknels).
back to the subject at hand: i hope bugs never comes back. i agree that it does sound different...but in an amateur hour way. you know what else sounds different? reel time...and cosmic spaceway rhyme (i know it\'s probably not coming back, but i love the song)...and a lot of the elements of \'vessel.\' hopefully those are more present in future shows than bugs.
