I think they do have to be "lossless"... like wavs right. So you\'ll probably have to mp3 > wav > upload, then it will generate FLACs and MP3s again.

Theoretically the FLACs should sound as good as the original mp3s and the archive-generated mp3\'s would suffer twice-compressed generation loss. Which IMO certainly beats nothing :)

what?? no, never up-convert!! if its mp3, don\'t try to make a lossless form out of a lossy source, it completely defeats the purpose!! that\'s like taking your fifth gen tape and converting it to a cd and then trying to claim it as cd quality. mp3s should get uploaded as mp3s.

yeah. as stated, its not the greatest but its definitely better than nothing! but to convert from lossy to lossless, then back down to lossy is gonna end up with something pretty awful sounding! :)

My mistake no mp3\'s formats are allowed in LMA, sorry for the misinformation and converting mp3 to flac\'s is unacceptable., I t
Matt

What file formats are accepted for contributions to the Live Music Archive?

Currently, the Live Music Archive will only accept audio files in either of two lossless formats: FLAC (.flac) or Shorten (.shn). Please Note that MKW files (.mkw) are *NOT* an acceptable file format for your contributions because they lack cross-platform compatibility (Mac users are unable to play or decode MKW files)

In addition, please do not upload the lossy files (MP3 or OGG) next to your FLAC or SHN format files - the Archive creates those files automatically, provided that the contributor agrees to having them available. This ensures that all the files here have uniform quality options selected.

Please follow etree.org\'s Seeding Guidelines when preparing your contributions for addition to the collection. Pay particular attention to the Naming Standards section. A well-named identifier helps patrons find your show in our large collection. A well-named set of files allows files to be listed in the proper order at the site, and allows patrons to listen to them in playlists and burn them to CD in the proper order, too.

Are bt.etree.org and the LMA @ archive.org run by the same organization (etree)?

Can mp3s be uploaded to bt.etree.org?
*Signed up for etree and found out - "NO .MP3s!"

OK
I have been shamed into now having the flac files also on Megaupload. I know I was being a lazy fuck but I\'ve now seen the error of my ways. I hope everyone enjoys them and enjoy the show tonight, I won\'t be there, have to see the Yankees.

Awesome skipper, thank you!

I will work on getting this up on the LMA. Just have to figure out how to make an md5 or checksum or ffp or something like that for this.

**I see, use the FLC frontend to test and verify the files:wink:

***Just a head\'s up, I am getting errors when I try to verify the files. Is anyone else having the same problem?

So no one else had problems with this? Maybe I\'ll have to try it again.

i didnt try to download these flacs, but half the flacs i download with google chrome fail verification.

probably would be a good idea to use a download manager. that could be the problem. unless it was a bad upload

Well, I use firefox and down them all! for a d/l manager and the way megaupload is I can\'t use that application. Each file has a little string of characters that you have to enter in order to download. I tried one file and got the same error. Maybe we can get skip to try it again?

frolfer, where are u getting the checksums from?  I didn\'t see a flac fingerprint or .md5 on the megaupload site; aren\'t a set of checksums needed to compare against the .flac files\' checksums?  or is it somekind of intrinsic algorithm?  i\'ll try downloading these later and see if i get the same error (google chrome).
