One question, where do the drug cartels, U.S. street gangsters etc. derive an income if their drugs are legal and regulated? Extortion? More robberies/violent crime in other areas to make up for their dwindling drug incomes? kidnappings for ransom?
Or does the government tax drugs to the point that a black market still flourishes parallel to the legal one?
Lets face it, there are hundreds of thousands or more street thugs that will never legitimately work and will need an income, so what will they do if drugs are legal?
I want to know your thoughts.
hmmm, become street bums like everyone else without a job?
Extortion and more robberies/violent crime would be minimal--> little profit vs work+risk
Selling drugs right now = mega profit compared to work+risk
Where would thugs get $$ for expensive guns and ammo without highly profitable drugs to sell? Organized crime break-ins would be much easier to stop than quiet drug transactions. Plus with most of our law enforcement freed up from busting pot smokers and hippies at the CULM, they could go after the violent gangs, mobs, and cartels. Put the dea to work on the streets to keep the peace, they\'re already para-military.
"Or does the government tax drugs to the point that a black market still flourishes parallel to the legal one?"
I\'d grow it in my garden and not worry about paying a fine for that, I do worry about being thrown in jail for that. A black market exists for alcohol and tobacco because of the taxes, but not so much violence since they are legally available.
And we could set free the thousands and thousands of non-violent offenders from our *highly profitable* private prisons, and have
plenty of room for the violent thugs you speak of.

nope, I love a good debate, whether I\'m wrong or right, discussion=win
