when mike first posted here about the 2/13 Deep Banana Blackout show announcement at Tuxedo Junction in Danbury, I was immediately psyched.. not only is TJ a nice room, but it\'s right down the street from a great place to eat & drink - one of my all-time favorite
pb "the breakfast
" venues: the Colorado Brewing Company. lisa and i had been craving their BBQ Chicken \'pizza\', and were psyched for any excuse to go there.
as we entered the CBC, things were different.. no one was standing at the podium waiting to seat people, and the whole back section was dark, with all the chairs up on the tables. the bar & front restaurant section was pretty packed though. i ran to the bathroom while lisa grabbed a table..
more weirdness in the bathroom - the bulletin board above the urinals, which usually has lots of posters for upcoming shows, was empty. in fact, the ONLY thing left on the bulletin board was a
(PB) sticker...
when i went back out to the table, the waiter came up and asked if we were eating.. i said yes..
"here\'s the deal.. we\'re going out of business
tomorrow. we have chicken, ribs, and steak - just trying to get rid of everything. everything is $15, and all pints are $2 of whatever we have left."
wow. i was shocked... i mean, it\'s not too surprising, because the place is huge, and is often pretty dead, but wow. talk about a let down...
lisa and i both got the chicken, and it was fantastic, just like everything else there.. they didn\'t have too many kinds of beer left, but i had a couple pints of their Scottish Export, and it was terrific.. just made me more bummed that they were calling it quits.. but i guess i can be happy that i got in there the night before they closed, rather than showing up to a locked door not knowing what was going on..
the guy said they were closing on saturday, then had a week after that to drink 76 kegs of beer!!
so pop in your favorite CBC show today, and remember.. whether it was the first \'Hope\', the \'Vortex\' show, first \'Pygmy\', or playing blackjack on the pool table upstairs... we had some good times at the CBC through the years... they will be missed.
