Now, I know it is rather popular here to bash on cops, but they do do alot of hard work.

My town publishes all of the police calls that go on, so we know whats happening. Please take this into consideration next time you cop bash:

4:20 p.m. Truck removing water from stream on
Princeton Lane reported; no contact

2:46 p.m. Person reports being hit earlier

1:20 p.m. Report of person leaving high school angry

4:47 p.m. Mixed breed dog found on Mountview Dr.

2:03 p.m. Group of small children playing in street on
Quinapoxet for some time

5:19 p.m. Caller concerned about youths hanging
around Main St. business parking area; youths
dispersed

6:15 p.m. Resident concerned about four-wheelers
being operated by youths, also concerned about
lawns being destroyed and exhaust smell in Bascom
Parkway area; no contact

10:24 p.m. Firecrackers reported on Bascom Parkway,
also kids running around

4:24 p.m. Report of suspicious  youths using
narcotics

...I\'m sorry, but after dealing that crap all your life, you can bust a few phish fans now and then.

If only they documented all the "snow emercencies" they\'d pawned off to local tow-shops around here... $180 each time! they\'d have a riot on their hands ...

I am not buying it.

I do not feel sorry for the police and the job they have.

When you apply for this kind of job you fully know what to expect, if you don\'t, then you should not be a cop.

Just because they decided to take a job that gives them a bunch of crap daily does not give them the right to simply bust a few fans.

They read the job description. If they don\'t like it, they can go and get a new job.

That really goes for anyone.
Love many, trust few and don\'t be late.

I\'m guessing you were being sarcastic ?

So basically in your town the police make sure youths don\'t congregate, break up parties etc. Sounds like where I grew up and I would bet these police officers probably have a HUGE chip on their shoulders (they almost always do).

Not too mention it sounds like your town has a lot of busy bodies who call the cops on kids who are hanging out.

I would say that most cops know what they are getting into when they sign up and if they didn\'t at that point, they know after they get out of police academy...  It is, however, naive of the fan to assume that they will not get busted if they are doing something that is illegal in the parking lot, whether it be smoking pot, drinking booze , selling jello shots, selling pipes, selling bootleg shirts, or any other number of things that are against the law.  9 out of 10 times you\'ll get away with it, but know that at some point, you\'ll get caught if you draw enough attention to yourself...

Tyzack you must be joking...  I assume... because that police roster looks like the easiest job on earth.

Yes, I am being sarcastic.

I do feel bad for them when they have to break up a domestic. That must suck.

Probably one of the most dangerous calls to get I would imagine. all that anger mixed in with emotions and more than likely booze and that is 1 volatile situation.

You know. As much as my posts would seem to otherwise suggest. I respect the job they have to do. However, I really wish that police officers could do their jobs more professionally.

I think the trouble is that for many officers they cannot seperate their jobs from the personal. So when folks are rightly or wrongly giving them shit it isn\'t that they are directing at the police officer specifically but at what he/she represents (the state). They internalize it as personal, couple that with the us vs. them and the increased militarization of the forces and the situation is ripe for ugliness. Not to mention some of the folks attracted to this kind of work have control issues.

When I was a young kid the older officers were friendly, they talked to you, said hello, BS\'d with us in the parks etc etc. That was the mid 80\'s or so. Even then the older guys would make comments about the new cops being overly and unnecessarily aggressive. They didn\'t like the new guys very much at all. This was in West Hartford CT, not the most crime riddled town

That was also 25 years ago... A lot of things have changed that forced cops to approach things differently than they did then...

It\'s usually some fucked up moron beating on some woman half his size.  This is the situation where I believe cops should have full right to take out the frustrations of their lives.

The way they treat kids at shows is brutality.

Tyzack, i know you were being sarcastic...

but pull up a police blotter from a really busy city like bridgeport or new haven or hartford, and you\'ll see that their jobs aren\'t easy at all.  Sure, some small towns are jokes.  But  that sometimes they see things you can\'t even imagine.   Mark has told me stories, like of a police chase ending up with a dead body on the side of the road.   Busting a big time heroin dealer and having a shoot out in the middle of state street.   stuff that would probably make some of you curl up in a corner and rock back and forth.

And yes, Spacey, it is the job they signed up for.  Like any job, you shouldn\'t bitch about it.  You are right.  Most of them, don\'t.  It\'s everybody else that bitches.

No,  i didn\'t drink any kool aid. i learned to respect what they do. Yes, there are ones that can be dicks, i\'ve been pulled over by number of them through the years.   But there are also hardworking ones that come home to 4 kids and a wife.   I respect what they do.   What police do, firemen do, teachers do....

Maybe if they didn\'t insist on chasing the guy there wouldn\'t have to be any dead bodies on the side of the road. Whatever the guy in the car was doing wrong, I assume his intentions were not to kill anybody, except that he probably freaked out when the cops lit him up and his fight-or-flight instincts kicked in.

Just sayin\'... human life and dignity comes first. The universal powers that be will be the true judge, I suppose.

Or maybe the guy shouldn\'t have committed a crime and stolen a car???   Both sides to every story.  We could debate this for days.   It goes back to what i said, sometimes neither side is right.

However, remember, you commit a crime, be it small, large, extra large, be prepared for the consequences.  Don\'t complain cause you got caught and you don\'t like how they treated you.  Don\'t get caught.  Or just don\'t do it. its the risk YOU take.

I gotta say after living in a lot of places where cops were total assholes and would bust anyone for anything they could it is GREAT to live in a place where the cops profile you for being white and leave you the hell alone because of it.
