i thought i heard a smooth criminal tease somewhere in there too.
yeah, definitely but don\'t remember exactly where. during the monster queeb?
my thoughts on this evening are far too heavy to convey in written word right now, but i just want to say that i\'ve never experienced a band playing more as though they were operating under one shared mind before in my life. everyone was just so tuned into what everyone else was doing at all times, the playing was absolutely seamless.
tim dedicated the show to timothy leary, who passed away on May 31, 1996. there\'s no doubt in my mind he was looking out over us all night.
the opening jam was absolutely mind blowing. unfortunately i know a lot of people missed it, though, which is really unfortunate. thank god for tapers. tribal was perfect first song to play in my opinion. i felt such a communal bond running throughout the venue (amongst the fans, not the bouncers outside, for the obvious reasons we can see below...) and tribal really brought us even closer together in that shared "oh my god this shit is absolutely going to be ridiculous" sort of awe. synergy and taboo are such hot songs, they provided a good upbeat vibe following the super heady tribal. and it turns out that more groovable respite was needed because the queeb that came next was nothing short of a masterpiece. tim, man. you blew my mind all night, but i felt like the queeb featured some of the most heartfelt and mature playing i\'ve ever heard from you. there was one point where i could have erupted into tears because your playing was so soulful, but just like great friends are always there to do, doozer, animal and sequoia swept in and carried my focus to merrier planes. metropolis is imo one of the best breakfast songs there is, and last night added weight to that argument. plus, i feel it completed the set so perfectly in terms of the story being told for the evening.
we are all so lucky to have this band in our lives it\'s not even funny. what we have going is one of the most indescribable vibes and i literally pray that the family continues to grow and prosper. i met so many new heady folk last night, some of whom had never seen the band but loved the scene and said it was so warm and inviting. obviously i couldn\'t agree more, and i\'m hope word spreads that the bfam not only knows how to party, but does so in a way that everyone can feel as though they\'re part of the ride, ya know?
i loved the high, open ceilings at the venue and the sound was great to my ears. sounded very full, like there was space for the notes to expand to their fullest potential. there were also great beers on tap, which tasted oh soooo good to this brew lover\'s lips.
as for not letting people in, yes, it sucks. i saw one kid get turned away with a ticket in hand begging at the door and trust me, he was NOT drunk. sucks for him and anyone else turned away. HOWEVER, it really did create an allure, like once you got in you were part of a lucky few who were safe inside and were about to share in an indescribable experience.
party bus for life. spaceman is a genius. throw those fireballs of energy all night long, baby, merry pranksters styleee!!
