Another great show at the Field last night. Everything was really tight, but Drunk Monk is when things started to get epic. I\'m terrible at estimating times, but Drunk Monk had to be one of the longest (and best) in history. The jam near the end went off into places normally reserved for a Rufus jam, reaching a point where there seemed like no way it would go back into the song (it did, FYI). See the Light really got the place moving; it\'s just a song that\'s so consistently great that there is no point in even talking about it.
What is the best Breakfast song? It sounds like an opinion question, but it\'s not. Because the answer is
The Grand Scheme of Things. The last third of Scheme alone is as powerful and epic as anything I have ever heard on stage.
At a lot of Breakfast shows, the cheering for an encore is almost perfunctory ("they\'re going to play one more, let\'s cheer so it\'s not embarrassing when they come back on"). Based on the time (after 1:15am) and the way the house lights came on, last night\'s encore seems like it really only happened because the crowd was so fired up from Scheme. Going right into The Chase was a good choice; I\'d like to hear it jammed into (without the intro) more often. It was a fast and energetic (maybe just because they only had five minutes, but I\'ll take it) way to close out the night. There\'s no way to top Scheme, so you may as well just funk it up.
As always, it was great to see everybody. Enjoy Sully\'s; hopefully I\'ll see you all at Daniel St. on Sunday.
