Very cool for Max! Anyone remember the original Uncle Sam Jam? aka the 1st Family Jam!!

Uncle Sammy Guitarist Max Delaney Backs Phil Lesh at Rock To Relief Benefit

On Friday night in San Francisco, the fourth annual Rock To Relief concert took place at Slim\'s. For the third year Phil Lesh participated, joining the San Francisco Songwriters Coalition All-Stars, at the show, which raised money for Bay Area Food Banks as well as the community service programs of the local Branson School. The group covered Bob Dylan\'s Blood On The Tracks, with vocals tackled by various singers from the Coalition. After completing the album, all of the singers returned to the stage for a gospel-flavored take "Like A Rolling Stone." Of particular note to Jambands.com readers will be the participation of Uncle Sammy\'s Max Delaney, who was one of two electric guitarists at Slim\'s, along with James Deprato (Chuck Prophet). Other players included: Jerry Becker (Pat Monahan) on acoustic guitar, drummer Kyle Caprista (Megan Slankard), Jeff Symonds on keys (Rich Price Band) and Matt Cunitz on Hammond B3.

Jambands.com tracked down Delaney, a transplanted New Englander who often gigs with the Joel Streeter Band, and Delaney explained, "I think I can safely speak for all of the Bay Area musicians involved when I say it was a total thrill to play with Phil. And for a large band that only rehearsed once together, I think we all totally shined and hit some great musical peaks together. And after the rush of Friday night was over, most of the Bay Area musicians regrouped on Saturday night at the Starry Plough in Berkeley, CA to perform the entire Beatles White Album. Would have loved to have Phil join us for that too but I think he had to head off to get ready for the Dead tour."

I remember that show.  Wasn\'t it at the Anex club.  I think the stage was opposite where it was for FF2.  And I broke out the Uncle Sam hat that day.  In those early days, there really wasn\'t a difference between the band and the fans; we were all part of one big happy family getting down.

I go to shows that I can get to.  If that means 2 shows like last year, so be it.  I\'ve stated in the past and I\'ll do it again, the jam band community has this ass-backwards idea that you have to go to every show to show that you\'re a fan.  Fans do what they can when they can.  And just because I\'m not around all that much, doesn\'t take away from the fact that I was around in the past...

Pretty sure the last time I saw Uncle Sammy was with PB in spring 2000.  I have absolutely no recollection of my opinion on them.

I remember that show; 9-11 was still fresh as the boys played some stuff that Tim did at the Americana show.  The first Uncle Sam Jam was 7/7/00 as noted above...  The show at Josh\'s that you\'re referencing was on 7/4/01 and was definitely a long show...

Good for Max, that\'s great! I thought US was a really special band, and I enjoyed every show.

Anybody have a recording of their last show at Porters?? cuz that was the heat!

I don\'t think I was at porter, but I have a few multitrack recording that I never uploaded to archive.  Sully\'s and arch street tavern in Hartford.  The Sully\'s is absolutely sick.  I\'ll have to dig this one up. also,I shot video at arch street. good times.
