traffic cameras are so constitutionally questionable, though... i know here they got discontinued because the va supreme court ruled against them. but they had to be set up first. my brother got a ticket from a camera once. he just told them he wasn\'t driving the car at the time, and since they couldn\'t see the driver nearly as well as they could see the license plate, they had to dismiss the charge. that sort of occurance helped go toward getting rid of them. you\'re supposed to be charging the driver, not the vehicle\'s owner... i think i\'m rambling, but the point is, hopefully the cameras will get challenged before they go up, as many states have been able to defeat them so far.

also, if you can\'t live on $500k and cause your company to fail, i don\'t feel bad for you. obviously you should not be entrusted with any large sums of money in the first fucking place. sell your shit, learn to live on a budget, and pretend you know enough about financial success to be, oh, i don\'t know, the ceo of a major fucking financial institution! how horrible, the thought of a frugal money manager!! i think the lesson to be learned here, is that if you suck so badly at your job that you throw the economy out of whack and have to be saved by socialism, you have to live by socialist rules and split your profits with us citizens who have had to save your ass. if you can operate your business without running it into the ground, go forth and profit!

I\'m all for the pay limits.  This is ONLY for companies getting federal money. Don\'t want your pay capped?  Don\'t run your company into the ground!  

The whole idea behind capitalism is for the those working hardest to reap rewards.  The problem is the "haves" of the country are corrupting the system, so that they are rewarded even when they fail miserably.

The most basic purpose of government is to keep a general harmony in society.  Through out history when the "haves" have stuck it too hard too the "have nots" reveloution follows.  It happened with us and the British (it was more about taxes then ideals), it happened in France and Russia.  It\'s happened in South and Central America.  What happening now is essentially a civilized riot.  Instead of dusting off the gulliotine, we\'re cutting off salaries instead.  These executives are criminal, and they are getting off easy.

I agree with that brian, my fear though is that once you have a law on the books, it\'s easy to start interpreting the law to fit other jobs, other companies, other levels within the company, and before you know it people that did everything right and are doing it on their own are getting their saleries capped, not just those getting federal funding. Once the government sees that they can use this as a secondary way to tax you, they are going to push on it over and over again and get as much as they can out of it.

I heard an interesting piece on NPR yesterday that the current stimulous package is, in price tag and balance, forumlicly exact to what Kanes would suggest to do to get out of the recesion.

Kanes has been a lighting rod figure in economics for the last 80 years. His theories have never been tested. This will, according to the economists in the story be a text-book perscribed test.

I am, in general, not Kansian, but since I want the package to succeed, I guess I have become one by force.

The President has made it clear that every taxpayer dollar spent on our economic recovery must be subject to unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability.  He has identified five crucial objectives for Federal agencies, to ensure that:

    * Recovery funds are awarded and distributed in a prompt, fair, and reasonable manner;
   * The recipients and uses of all recovery funds are transparent to the public, and that the public benefits of these funds are reported clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner;
   * Recovery funds are used for authorized purposes and every step is taken to prevent instances of fraud, waste, error, and abuse;
    * Projects funded under the recovery legislation avoid unnecessary delays and cost overruns; and,
    * Programs meet specific goals and targets, and contribute to improved performance on broad economic indicators.

To meet these objectives, the President is directing Federal agencies to take critical steps in preparation for the Act’s implementation.
