The REAL New Haven v. Boston Rivalry: HARVARD V. YALE
« on: November 21, 2008, 12:03:30 pm »
For all of you ignoble plebians living in the Superhaven area, your day of reckoning has come.  Since you live in such hollow valleys that couldn’t beat out New Britain to be the hometown of the local Double-A baseball team, you latch onto New York teams to salvage some shred of respectability for yourselves.  The desperation for relevancy is obvious in this move.  Lo, just because you are at one end of the MetroNorth Rail and New York is at the other doesn’t give you any more justification to root for New York teams than someone from Boston who lives at one end of the Accela Express with New York at the other.

You live in Connecticut.  You are eternally stuck in the middle.  You have no identity.  You are perpetually irrelevant.

But for one day a year, all of that changes. No need to latch on to some far away culture as your own. This is New Haven’s day.  This is New Haven’s school.  This is New Haven’s team.  For one day a year, New Haven’s only true source of identity outside of apizza gets to take on Boston in a rivalry that predates even Yankees-Red Sox.
Of course I am talking about

HARVARD V. YALE  FOOTBALL

I am willing to wager a chicken dinner on the outcome of tomorrow’s match with the first Superhaven resident with the gall to post his or her acceptance to take on myself and the venerable Crimson.  To the victor goes the spoils.

wow, i remember going to yalebowl like 3 or 4 years ago after latenight raging following the Edmondtown Hall show. the first occurance of eppy1>eppy2>eppy3.  i drove up for the show solo, ended up at someones house til sunup then went over and started tailgating. me and wah.  boy was that the end of my day.

timmytour set up in front of some frat\'s party, which was pretty fun, and the guys were all cool. across the way they were hurling kegs out of the back of a box truck.  interesting.  somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd timmy set i saw some dude walking around timmy\'s van.  i walked over to inspect and dude was just about to start pissing IN the door.  i threw the fucker to the ground and he pissed on himself, it was fucking hilarious!

i then passed out for hours on the front porch of Dobson\'s place, to wake up to a party.  LONG two days.  had to share when i saw this thread!

i was at every game working this year except for the one the weekend of the feakout, and every single one was a dooze. the attendence for all the games combined this season wouldnt even have filled the bowl for 1 game. it was raining last week,  but there still couldnt have been more than 1,500 people there.

On November 20, 2004, at the annual Yale-Harvard football game, Yale students used a card stunt to trick more than 1,800 Harvard fans into holding up placards that spelled "WE SUCK."

Michael Kai and David Aulicino, two Yale students from the Class of 2005, created and coordinated the plan. Disguised as the "Harvard Pep Squad," they and twenty classmates handed white and crimson placards to fans — mostly Harvard alumni, with a few faculty, students, and others — in the central area of the Harvard side of the stadium. The group told the crowd that by lifting the placards they would spell "GO HARVARD." The placards were actually arranged to spell "WE SUCK."

The 125th Anniversary of The Game = Sold Out. I spent all week talking to students, alumni and New Haven residents who wanted to make the trip to Cambridge to see the Elis in action. A Yale win prevents Harvard from clinching a share of the Ivy League Title, wins HYP for the Elis and, should Brown somehow lose to Columbia, earns Yale a co-title.

Average attendance at Yale Bowl this season was over 11,000 paid. It\'s not (the current administration of) Yale\'s fault that the Bowl holds over 60,000.

Just some facts.

I grew up in Westville.  We used to sneak into the Bowl for pretty much every game.  Lots of fun!  I enjoyed antics of "THE-YALE...  PRECISION...  MARCHING...  BAND!"

The Harvard games always had the best food and drink.  We would roam all the parking lots and check out the scene.

Half the time, we didn\'t even bother going in to the game.  But when we did, we would steal the footballs that were kicked into the stands and dodge the ushers as we ran out with our prize.

Game is on TV but not in HD, I can\'t believe it.

OH!  What\'s up New Haven bitches!  Harvard takes opening drive 7 minutes for a TD, then runs the surprise onside kick and recovers it!!!  Yale might not run a play in the first period!
