HELPING HANDS: A BENEFIT FOR MATT MIKLUS

For almost twenty years, Shelton resident Matt Miklus has been enriching his community through music. On Saturday, December 6th, community members will use music to give a little back.

Friends and family are accepting donations and sponsors for Helping Hands, a benefit concert for 36 year old Matt Miklus, who severed four fingers in an accident while working on his house in September.  Having 3½ of the four fingers reattached after two surgeries, Matt hopes to regain the use of those fingers after intensive physical therapy.

Miklus is a Shelton resident who has been teaching guitar in the Valley for ten years.  He has, along with his original rock band Hubinger Street, organized and performed at fund raisers for the Shelton Congregational Church, Hamden Mount Carmel Congregational Church, WPKN Radio, and the Connecticut Land Trust.  He also annually organizes food and toy drives for the Spooner House, the Connecticut Food Bank and Toys for Tots.

Helping Hands, A Benefit for Matt Miklus will take place from 4pm to 12am Saturday December 6th at the AM Club in Derby and will feature live bands, raffles, food and drinks. Please join the community to raise funds for Miklus, wife Amanda, and step-son Kiel.  Tickets are $30 each.

This is heart breaking news.  Matt has been a giant of the local CT music scene for many years.

Please considering giving to this fund and attending the benefit.

Hey all - the benefit bash for Matt Miklus is only a few weeks away, and the \'committee\' needs to get a reasonable head count ASAP.  Please join us for an awesome 8 hours of music, food and drinks.  All for only $30 - and for a great cause.  See me at Tim\'s Dewey\'s show on 11/13 for tickets - or contact me at  \'stublatt@aol.com\'.  (Bands performing that day/night include Shakedown, String Fingers, Hoe and Hubinger St).  Many thanks in advance!!  (See above for details on date, time and location).

Here\'s a little something from Matt (excerpts from a recent post on Hubinger\'s message board):

I\'d like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their overwhelming support while I have been trudging through the wake of my recent accident. I have received so many good wishes through emails, letters, cards, gifts and phone calls that I couldn\'t possibly feel alone. I am forever grateful to all of you for the positive energy that has been pouring out to me and filling my bones.
As time goes on and as my injuries heal and become only memories I know that all of this attention will come to an end. I wanted to be sure everyone knows how much their concern and good will has helped me. I can\'t thank you all enough.

Thank you to those of you have been able to come out and see Hubinger St. perform with me playing the keyboard. I have really been enjoying this opportunity and people have said some encouraging things about the sound. Thank you for listening with such forgiving ears.

Thank you to everyone who has been lending a hand organizing the upcoming benefit in December. I think we will all have some fun that night.
Lastly I wanted to let all you concerned friends and family know how things are going with my recovery...
My three fingers that have been transplanted are healing rather nicely. They look like they are part of my body once again. I have been working daily on the physical therapy to get them functioning again. Unfortunately the bones are not quite healed enough yet so there are still pins sticking out of my hand, that are holding things together. This as you can maybe imagine limits the movement I am able to do. Hopefully these pins will be removed sometime next week and then I can begin full range therapy of my fingers.
There may or may not be more surgeries in my future to help the tendons begin to work again and reconstruct my pinky knuckle. All in all things are going well and moving forward. Before too long I will be reinventing my picking style with 3 1/4 fingers.
See you all soon.
Thank you
Matt

We are performing at a benefit for poor Matty (He had a horrific accident with a power saw & lost 4 fingers on his left hand!) to help with his medical expenses. This will take place at a hall in Ansonia, I will post all details asap, we are happy to headline this event. I hope that we are able to get a huge crowd to this event & raise a s$%#^load of $$$$$ for Matt.
If you are interested in helping to promote this Benefit let me know, Hubinger is sending me posters, etc
I will keep information coming as I know more.

Show is at the AM Club - 30 Hawthorne Ave in Derby - with a nice and early 4:00 start - so if you already have plans that night, you can hopefully still make it down early and catch some of the action (and food and drink).  Bands include Shakedown, Hubinger St, Hoe, String Fingers - and more to be announced.  If you can, get your tickets in advance and don\'t get shut out (great response so far) - call 305-6585 or 954-7619, or e-mail me at  stublatt@aol.com .
