Just some words of wisdom from the ticket market guru:

After Saturday\'s onsale, EVERYONE is gonna hit the secondary market.  Right now roughly $250 per show can get you in to each night.  After Saturday, with everyone having no more hope at face value tickets, the secondary market will blow up and I expect that tickets will start going for $350-$400 a pop as buyers hit the market in large numbers.

If you are on the fence about maybe going secondary market or not, now is probably the best time to get in.  Being just 1 year removed from the gutsiest ticket purchase I will ever make (a Super Bowl ticket 4 months in advance) I just want to share that if you know you want to do it and you can possibly spare the money, just have the guts to do it.  You\'ll be glad you did.  You\'ll have 4.5 fantastic months just to look forward to it, and a lifetime to look back on it afterwards.  And somewhere down the road, you won\'t be thinking about where the $750 went, you\'ll just think about how incredible the shows were.  I\'ll leave you with something I posted in February in the football thread.  (Edited to apply to Phish.)  This helped me get through the anxiety of going through with it, and it was the best decision I ever made.  Even though the unthinkable happened and the Patriots lost the game, it was one of the best times I will ever have.  Even if Phish does the unthinkable and doesn\'t have it, it will be one of the best times you ever have.  You only live once.  Life is too short to miss Phish shows.  If you\'re on the fence, I hope this helps you land on the right side.

"First, look in the mirror, and ask yourself, in all serious honesty, "Am I a Phish fan? Does it really matter to me?" If you look yourself in the eye and answer yes, then you have to do it.  You have to get to these shows. And know this: The more you think about it, the more you\'ll talk yourself out of it.  Don\'t over think it. Just put your fist on the table, call your most key buddy in the world, and get it done. You won\'t be sorry."

Congrats to those who have won already, good luck to everyone on Saturday, and may those of you on the fence land on the right side.

so i feel what you are saying...i really do...i think that you did give some good advice to people...however when i look myself in the mirror i know that i am a real phish fan..who paid 35 bucks to see them in the new haven coliseium the first time and gave them alot of time, energy, money and support...not to mention that i have been lucky enough to see some of the best phish shows ever...but i refuse to drop cash like that....while i have it...it just wouldnt be responsible to spend hundreds of bucks on one ticket...but to each his own and more power to you if you can or want too...will i be super bummed out if i dont get down there...well sure...but i have a whole summer tour to look forward too and save for...but no matter if you can make it or not...the amount of money your willing to spend should not determine if you are a true phan or not....sad but true...many of us super heady lot kids just had to grow up....

I\'m sorry if I said anything that offended you Blondie.  Nowhere does my post say that you are not a Phish fan if you do not want to pay secondary prices.  If you think that\'s what I meant, I apologize.  I am in the same boat as you.  I am already on record in this thread saying that I am not paying secondary market prices, so why would I say that anyone who didn\'t pay them isn\'t a fan?  That doesn\'t make sense.  Nobody is questioning your fanhood.  I\'m just trying to offer some positive encouragement to anyone who is strongly considering it and just has a hasty trigger finger.  It\'s certainly a ballsy purchase, and I just wanted to share my experience and offer support as someone who recently went through a ballsy ticket purchase.  That\'s all.  Nothing but positive vibes here.  Again, I apologize if I offended anyone, that was not my intention.

that was one of the greatest motivational speeches ive ever heard.

Thanks.  Sounds like you bought tickets!

By the way everybody, one last food for thought for you:

The official Wolf line that 3/8/09 is the last Phish show ever is 20%.  It\'s not likely, but it\'s more likely than you think.

so wolfy what you\'re saying is i should buy as many $250 tix as i can now, then sell them for $400 apiece on sunday...i like your thinking

I\'ll tell you what, that\'s a much safer bet than any stock on the stock market, that\'s for sure.  Put down the E*Trade and start investing in Phish tickets.  If you can get past the ethical hangups of it, I guarantee that if you go to any online agency right now and charge 4 tickets per night to yourself you can then flip them on Sunday for enough profit to get yourself a ticket to each night FOR FREE.  No joke.  $250 has been the going rate all week this week, and I\'ve even seen $217 per night for Fri/Sat and $180 for Sun at one site.  (Those are final prices after surcharges at a reputable broker, NOT meaningless craigslist posts.)  Try finding those prices Sunday morning.  You will see nothing under $300, Friday show might be nothing under $400.

I\'m not gonna do it, but I guarantee it would work.  Anywho, the onsale is in a little over 9 hours.  Good luck everyone!

UPDATE:

OK guys, I just did a dry run on the Ticketmaster number posted at Phish.com just so I could get used to the menus.  It\'s one of those automated things you talk to.  So I think what you might be able to do is call like an hour early, keep the machine busy, and then as it hits 10am you\'ll already be in the system and can go for the kill.  If I were willing to stay on the phone for 9 hours right now, I could be deep in the system ready to pounce at 10am.  I think I will call back at 8:45 and give this a whirl.  You should do the same.

*****
After some practice with the system, I have it down.  I started by mapping out some of the menus.  I figured out where it will kick you out and hang up. I found where you can get into a loop that will allow you to kill time ad infinitum while staying in the system.  I timed on a stopwatch how long it takes to complete a loop, and how long after you leave the loop it takes to get to purchasing.  You might think I\'m nuts but I think it was 15 minutes well spent.  And if it doesn\'t work, hey, like we don\'t all waste 15 minutes every day.  See you in the morning.

Not sure what you\'re saying to do exactly... are you suggesting a 9:45am call, or 9:46 to be safe?

Nevermind, that\'s exactly what you\'re saying. I noticed the above line said you\'ll call at 8:45.. I\'m in, I\'ll give it a shot. I\'ll be driving to work anyways. Thanks for the info, if this works I\'ll cyber blow you. I meeeean Thanks again!

What\'s the phone number??

I fished around tickemaster.com and didn\'t find it.

Forget it.  I got through a few times at 9am but every loop that worked at 1AM when the offices were closed now leads to a live agent after you do it a couple of times, and the agent hangs up.  The line is now already giving a busy signal at 9:15.  Oh well.

Just some thoughts that could be completely false...

Last night I also tried getting through via 10 dfferent numbers in 10 different states.  They all go into the exact same system.  I was able to reqest Phish through all of them.  I tried again today and every line is busy.  I don\'t think it makes any difference at all what number you call, other than it sends you to a different call center if you get to a human.  The local numbers are just to make TM seem more like a local company.  Every US number goes into the same system.

Also, I got through to the Boston line at 9:30am and was able to keep the automated system looping for 12 minutes before it kicked me off.  I\'m sure I\'m not the only one doing this, so basically what it means is that you need to be in by 9:45-9:50 and keeping the machine busy looping until 10.  Even if you get through at the stroke of 10 there are already so many people in the system who have been looping that you\'re probably too far behind.

you have to love it when ticketmaster is so clogged they don\'t even load the picture you\'re suppose to be writing the work in from. I did get it, it got down to 0 minutes and told me there was a problem, go back in, down to 1 minute and it jumped up to 15. Oh well, I\'m glad someone got through!
