A couple thoughts on the Hampton Shows and the First/Second Legs of the Summer Tour.  Is it me or do you feel that after the Hampton shows, these shows have mellowed out a little.  The average time of the summer shows have been roughly than 1/2 shorter than the Hampton avg.  Take a look at the numbers:

Hampton Shows
- 3 shows
- Avg. show timed in just under 3-1/2 hours
- 1st Set avg. time was 1 hour 48 minutes
- 2nd Set + Encore avg. time was 1 hour 39 minutes

Summer Tour (1st Leg)
- 15 shows
- 1st Leg shows avg. time was 2 hours 53 minutes (only 3 shows were 3 hours or longer)
- 1st Set avg. time was 1 hour 23 minutes (excludes 6/12/09  because show was only 1 set)
- 2nd Set & Encore avg. time was 1 hour 30 minutes (excludes 6/12/09  because show was only 1 set)

Summer Tour (2nd Leg To Date)
- 8 shows
- 2nd Leg show avg. time is 2 hours 54 minutes (3 shows so far have been 3 hours or longer)
- 1st Set avg. time is 1 hour 22 minutes
- 2nd Set & Encore avg. time is 1 hour 32 minutes

I know that people were bitching that there was less jamming in the 1st sets, but wouldn\'t you rather have another 1/2 of Phish each show?  I\'m not complaigning about the quality of the music; what I have listened to has been great, but I thought that Hampton had set a presidence for the shows to come...

Thoughts... Am I completely off base as usual...

i\'d be interested to see the number of songs played per show in addition to show length. i\'d rather see them play longer per song than longer per show (ie more jamming)

well, at hampton they averaged 28 songs per night. as you might imagine, they haven\'t even gotten close to that since.

They\'re defininitely playing less songs with more jamming, so the more jam and fewer song attributes to the shorter show...

Hampton Shows
- 28 song avg. per show
- 1st set avg. was 16 songs
- 2nd set + encore avg. was 13 songs

Summer - 1st Leg
- 22 song avg. per show
- 1st set avg. was 11 songs
- 2nd set + encore avg. was 11 songs

Summer - 2nd Leg (to date)
- 20 song avg. per show
- 1st set avg. is 10 songs
- 2nd set + encore avg. is 10 songs

What do you mean by "earned a longer show"?  This whole tour should be special after the hiatus.  Unless I was wrong, Hampton was supposed to be the start of something special, not just 3 special shows and then back to the regular routine... Again, not complainging about the music...

you are wrong. or else hampton would have been put immediately before fenway and called part of the summer tour, not a special march run. they came back to hampton and played every song that they had relearned up to that point. the tour is special because they are a band again, otherwise its just another tour. hampton was special because it was their debutante ball, their return to the scene.

Okay, I\'m wrong, but to me Hampton set the tone for the band and the way they toured moving forward...  I didn\'t take it as a one-off...

I listened to pretty much all of the first leg and am starting on the second leg now.  In all honesty, do you think that I\'d spend the time and effort to put the stats out that I have and just look at the setlists?  

I personally liked the flow of the Hampton shows.  With the first set tending to be longer with a couple jams, but mostly standard tunes and the second set being the experimental jam time, that the right combo for me...  

For the most part, I\'m a traditional 3-5 minute song guy, but I enjoy, TB, Phish, GD because it\'s not all jam all the time; that when I tend to start shying away from the music...

On a side note, I really like the first Bonnaroo show with one set...  I think that it\'d be interesting to see a couple Phish shows with one 3 hour set rather than 2 1-1/2 sets with 45 minutes to an hour of setbreak...

Trust me, I\'m not a noob, but not every songs needs to be jammed out...  I wasn\'t actually referencing Phish with that comment, it\'s that besides enjoying some jamband music, I also enjoy traditional radio friendly rock music...
