bouncin? oh you gotta be effin\' with me. breakfast are gonna blow this setlist out of the water.
Forget Bouncin....Wading in the Velvet Sea??? I HATE THAT SONG.
i hear ya... what the hell is this... phish performs at a junior high dance?
tweezer to start the second set... now we\'re talking
What is everyone complaigning about? Here\'s a couple thoughts:
1. Phish called it quits after Coventry; they got back together and sound good. Be happy with that.
2. They premiered 3 new songs last night.
3. They played a few tunes that haven\'t been played in a while:
A. The Star Spangled Banner - last played 7/25/03 (36 shows since last played)
B. Destiny Unbound - last played 2/28/03 (51 shows since last played)
C. The Ballad of Curtis Loew - last played 8/2/93 (620 shows since last played)
Yeah, they played some poppy tunes, but you can\'t really complaign when you get the items listed above, Chalkdust, Stash, DWD, Bathtub, Bowie, YEM and GTBT all in one show. If you don\'t think they delivered because some songs were played or others weren\'t played for the same length they had been in the past, then you\'re missing the big picture....
Might be the first post ever where i pretty much agree with you entirely, Yoda.
Big deal, 5 minute Moma Dance- it ain\'t gonna be epic every time they play it (it\'s not Queeb, dude!!)
I think it\'s understandable that it will take them some shows to really get back the epic improv and jamming they are known for...
I thought the playing was crisp throughout the show, but the sound was pretty poopy where I was for the first set (I saw DMB on friday at fenway as well- all in all the place is pretty poor, sound wise, which is not exactly surprising)
2nd set was much much better - sound wise, vibe wise (we finally had some lights!) setlist wise... everything! I do remember limb by limb being good, but my current recollection has bathtub gin as the most notable jam of the night... but that is subject to change upon further review!
All in all, there were some good peaks in jams (but not enough of the "holy shit this is the best thing i\'ve ever heard in my life" moments), they played the songs right, had some ser bustouts and I liked the new songs, as much as you can dig first times played. I felt all three songs contained notable swells of glory within them. Time turns elastic is very long. Ocelot was a little slower. Light was fun
Setlist 1st set- pretty average except for the Destiny Unbound bustoutishness. playing was good but not epic. i had lots of fun during poor heart, a song which i frequently skip in the car
setlist 2nd set- pretty freakin awesome, imo... TTE and Light i liked much better than Ocelot, and all the older songs were excellent. Curtis Loew bustout touched me a little extra cuz me and a buddy at work have been singing this all the time in the past couple months. Incredible good vibes
Encore- pretty standard but fun and my 2 friends who were at their first show loved it- they knew cavern and tweeprise and love zeppelin
All in all, on the 1 through 5 scale, I give this show a 4. The playing was probably only a strong 3 but my personal attachment to the venue, the new songs, the bustouts, and the momentum of the occasion prop it up to 4 status.
Take it or leave, folks, but that\'s the honest truth
