Choke
« on: April 24, 2008, 11:43:11 pm »
Now I\'ve tried to start Chuck Palahniuk threads on here before with little reaction, but I can think of at least a couple people I know of who have read Choke.  So here goes......

Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club)is gonna be back in theaters, and I can\'t fuckin wait.  Choke has been in production for what seem like an eternity, but it will be in theaters on August 1st. :)  I know it\'s ages away, but that\'s just how excited I am about this.

Sam Rockwell plays Victor Mancinni, and it\'s directed by 1st time director Clark Greg.

This is def one of my favorite books from Chuck and easily his darkest and most twisted.

Also there\'s no release date yet but Invisible Monsters is also coming out at some point in 2008.  Word on Chuck\'s site is that Jessica Biel is supposed to play Daisy St. Patience.

From http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net-

Survivor - The Movie
Chuck Palahniuk’s second novel Survivor has long since been sitting in the halls of movie production limbo. Soon after Fight Club became a runaway cult hit, talk began of turning Survivor into a movie with such talent mentioned as Jerry Bruckheimer producing; starring names such as Jim Carrey, Kevin Spacey, and Madonna; even Trent Reznor of NIN tossed his hat into the circle and offered to score the entire film. The first tangible lead to take though was a screenplay by Jake Paltrow (Gwyneth’s little brother). With a draft that convinced the heads at 20th Century Fox, Paltrow set into motion to move the project forward. Things looked good and ready to take off. And then two airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center.

In the wake of 9/11, something happened behind the scenes of the book industry and Hollywood, and suddenly anything with transgressive themes found a dusty shelf. Survivor, a book with the running storyline of a person hijacking and crashing a 747 into the Australian outback just didn’t sit right in this new, post-terrorist climate our society was living in. For years, Chuck would find himself answering a common question at almost every public reading he did: “What’s the status of the Survivor movie?”

Well, through many ups and downs.... names attached..... and options expired and renewed, it seems that director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is back on board.  In a recent interview, when asked about next projects, he was quoted as saying, "I’m working on the book Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk that I’m working on with a friend… It’s a great book. I love that book. So we’ve been working on that.".

I am also a big fan of his writing.  Can\'t wait for Snuff to come out next month!  I\'ll check out the movie, but there never as good as the book!

Looks like it got pushed back to September 26th.

In the end, \'Choke\' ends exactly the way I like a film to end.  I won\'t spoil it.  But it was a new ending that Chuck told me wasn\'t in the Sundance Film Festival cut. The moment captured on screen, and the song that is playing while the credits rolled, just completely won me over and made me feel very good about the film.  Here is a moving story of love, as only Chuck can write, and as Clark captured and nurtured brilliantly.  Even now, sitting here typing this, I\'m excited for Clark Gregg, and am eager for more Chuck Palahniuk fans to see this.  September 26th can\'t come soon enough.

Well, any of Chucks books would be a great place to start!

I\'ve only seen a couple of his movies I think.  Joshua, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Strictly Business and Somebody to Love.  From what I\'ve seen, I think he will do a great job playing Victor.

Side note- I have 100 pages left to go in Rant and then I\'m gonna start on Snuff!  I love everything that Chuck does.  He can write no wrong in my book!

strippers reading the book, redband trailer (the first redband trailer I\'ve seen that truly deserves to be redband), and lots of other cool stuff.

comment on the redband trailer, you\'ve been warned.
Quote from: Cinemablend:
It’s filthy, it’s disgusting, it’s morally reprehensible, full of nudity, and the pulse pounding soundtrack seems to be singing about Satan. What would Jesus not do? Watch this stripper filled movie. On the other hand, it seems like it may be just the thing for me. Watch the trailer and hear Sam Rockwell proclaim: “If this movie doesn’t touch you, go ahead and touch yourself.” Just please, don’t do it when I’m around."

What did you think of Rant?  Good Chuck ending.

Have you read Snuff yet?  I haven\'t gotten around to it yet myself, if it\'s anything like Haunted or Stranger than Fiction I won\'t bother.

HA! "man overboard"  Classic.

That trailer may have just inspired me to consume Chucks books like so many Wednesday night Guinness half yards of yore. When does this gem open?

September 26th in select theaters, it\'s an indie movie so you may have to do some searching.
